AEW Executive Vice President Kenny Omega defeated Rey Fenix to capture the Lucha Libre AAA World Wide Mega Championship at the Heroes Inmortales event 2019 Saturday night in Orizaba, Veracruz, Mexico.
Omega defeated Fenix with his One Winged Angel finisher to win the championship. It was also noted that Rey Fenix’s note was busted open during the match.
Fenix offered Omega and handshake following the match, but Omega instead posed and held up the Championship Belt.
The match between Omega and Fenix was set up from a challenge by Omega to Fenix at the Triplemania XXVII back in August after the Lucha Bros and Laredo Kid defeated Omega and The Young Bucks at the event.
AEW and Lucha Libre AAA World Wide announced a partnership between the promotions this past February.
This is Omega’s first championship since losing the IWGP Heavyweight Championship to Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 13 this past January.
Omega is currently involved in an angle with Jon Moxley. The two are scheduled to square off at AEW’s Full Gear pay-per-view on Saturday, November 9 in Baltimore, Maryland.
