During Wednesday’s Night Two of AEW Fyter Fest on TNT, Taz brought his old FTW World Championship to the show, and crowned Brian Cage as the FTW World Champion.
According to a new report from PWInsider, the FTW belt was never owned by ECW, therefore it did not transfer to the ownership of WWE with the acquisition of ECW.
The belt was designed, created and owned by Taz who came up with the original storyline in ECW back in 1998 where he declared himself as the FTW World Champion.
The FTW Championship Belt that Brian Cage holds is indeed the actual original belt, as Taz holds the copyright on the design and intellecutal property, which allows him to create and merchandise such as title belt replicas, t-shirts and more.
Taz retired the FTW belt following the ECW Living Dangerously pay-per-view in 1999.
Hopefully some of you guys learned a lesson tonight. Don’t “assume” everyone reads these silly ass spoilers because MOST fans don’t read them. And more importantly just because it’s not in the “spoilers” u read online doesn’t mean it didn’t happen! #FTW #AEWDynamite #FyterFest pic.twitter.com/a4QL13x1w7
