According to Fightful Select, several AEW talent has reportedly found out Colt Cabana’s contract was not likely to be renewed. It was noted that this has caused concern among many as Cabana is a very popular backstage. Furthermore it was said numerous talent “went to bat” for Cabana. Cabana last wrestled at the AEW-produced ROH Supercard Of Honor event this past April.

During the media scrum after CM Punk made his AEW debut on Rampage last August, he said there was no one in the locker room with whom he had a bad relationship with.

Cabana and Punk’s friendship ended after they were both sued by WWE doctor Christopher Amann in 2018 over comments that Punk made on Cabana’s “Art of Wrestling” podcast after his release from WWE. Cabana and Punk won the lawsuit. However they had a disagreement over legal fees that led to Punk suing Cabana later that year.

This past May, Cabana had reportedly signed a new contract “earmarked” for Ring of Honor.
