AEW Full Gear PPV news and notes

Some notes from Saturday night’s AEW Full Gear pay-per-view are below:

The main event finish with William Regal handing MJF Brass Knuckles was Tony Khan’s idea and you can look back at the last several weeks of the build-up you see the signs leading to it. It appears from the media scrum that MJF as a heel champion pairing with and Regal not unlike Kenny Omega and Don Callis.

There was another finish that was brought up by several of the most influential AEW talent. MJF not winning the title wasn’t the question, if was just different ways on how to get there with him coming out victorious in the end. Khan was said to be strong on his finish on how MJF would win.

The number of buys as of this writing look similar to All Out which was 140,000 buys. It was below last year’s Full Gear, which did 155,000 buys. Most did not expect this year’s show to have a shot at beating last year’s numbers. The other two Full Gear pay-per views had about 90,000 and 100.000 buys.

The numbers are said to be very preliminary and based a lot on advance order numbers. Final PPV numbers are not available for 90 days.

The show was announced on the air as a sellout and standing room only. However, it was said to be about 600 shy of what would have been a full sellout for the PPV set up at the Prudential Center. The topped out with a gate of $1,040,000.

Just for confirmation since there have been a number of questions about the trios titles and the best-of seven series. It has been confirmed that Death Triangle will be champions until or unless The Young Bucks & Kenny Omega win a fourth match from them. There was said to be a number of people that thought the series would end up in all seven matches based on consistency. Saturday night’s match was for the titles and was the first match of the later announced best-of-seven series.
