Number one contender decided at New Japan event; championship match reportedly set for Forbidden Door

A battle between former champions took place at NJPW’s Dominion event in Osaka, the finals of a tournament to determine a new #1 contender to the United States Heavyweight Championship.

In the end, it was Will Ospreay coming out on top after hitting his Hidden Blade maneuver multiple times on Archer to pick up the pinfall victory.

After the match, Ospreay called out current champion Kenny Omega, indicating that he looks to go for the title Omega took from him at Wrestle Kingdom 14 in an act of revenge reserved for the AEW-New Japan event Forbidden Door, emanating from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on June 25.

Ospreay defended the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship at last year’s event, defeating Orange Cassidy to retain.
