AEW star calls out New Japan champion on Sunday

At the Dominion event in Osaka held by New Japan, the NEVER Openweight Six Man Tag Team Championship was defended as Kazuchika Okada, Tomohiro Ishii, and Hiroshi Tanahashi faced the team of Claudio Castagnoli, Jon Moxley, and Shota Umino.

The champions were able to retain after Okada pinned Umino following a Rainmaker, and after the match a video packaged played revealing Bryan Danielson, who laid out a challenge to Okada, one of the top stars of New Japan:

“For the last ten years I’ve heard people talk about how great you are. How you are the best wrestler of this generation. And I’ve also heard in interviews, you said that you wanna wrestle me, that you wanna fight me. Watching you, you’re good. I know you’re good. But I am the litmus test of great. You wanna wrestle Bryan Danielson? You call yourself the Rainmaker, but you step into the ring with me and you’re getting into the f–king desert, and there ain’t gonna be no rain.”

Okada responded in kind after the video was over, saying the forbidden door would be open.

This could well set up for a match at the AEW-New Japan show Forbidden Door, emanating from the Scotiabank Arena in Toronto, Ontario, Canada on June 25.

Last year’s event saw Okada participate in a four-way match for IWGP World Heavyweight Champion that saw Jay White ultimately retain the title against the Rainmaker, Hangman Page, and Adam Cole.
