Fightful Select has reported new details on Andrade El Idolo, following his departure from AEW after the Worlds End pay-per-view.
The report notes that the former NXT Champion had signed a two-year deal with AEW in 2021, but a series of setbacks and injuries resulted in an extension that lasted until the end of 2023.
There were plans to stay with AEW and explore other options, but El Idolo informed fellow wrestlers near the end of his tenure that he intended to return to WWE.
The report also states there is “widespread acknowledgement within the wrestling community” that El Idolo is likely to return to WWE, but sources within the company have not officially confirmed anything as of time of writing.
