MJF cut a promo during Wednesday’s Dynamite, directed at Tony Khan.
In what was a worked-shoot promo – the real-life issues between MJF and Khan were used for storyline purposes. MJF spouted his frustration with being underpaid and under-appreciated in AEW in a tirade filled with profanity.
After a commercial break, the commentary team no-sold what happened, and AEW’s Twitter did not post clips from the segment.
Several sources are saying that fans in the building said that CM Punk ran down to the ring after the segment, but MJF rolled out of the ring and left through the crowd.
The segment containing the promo is below, courtesy of Josh Boutwell’s recap.
MJF comes out and immediately calls for his music to be cut off as he just glares out at the crowd. MJF says he’s in a lot of pain after what happened to him on Sunday but all people want to do is hear him talk. He says he’ll talk but this is Max Friedman talking, not MJF. MJF says there are a lot of big executives from Warner Media here and he would hate to embarrass Tony Khan.
MJF says that Khan has wanted to sit down and hash things out for awhile but it’s too little, too late. The fans start chanting “shut the f*ck up” at him.
MJF says AEW started as a friend’s company and everyone was just given a free ride except for him but he busted his ass and made memory after memory but he still gets no respect. MJF says everything he touches turns to gold and no one else is on his level.
He says he doesn’t come out expected to hit home runs every week, he says he’s expected to hit grand slams and he doesn’t every single week. MJF says he’s constantly held under a microscope because he is the only person in AEW able to carry the company on his back.
MJF mocks the fans that are clapping for him and asks where they were this weekend when everyone was calling him an “unprofessional piece of shit.” MJF says everyone in the back wants his spot, and that’s fine because he doesn’t want to be here anymore. He calls the fans “uneducated marks” and says all they do is rant their opinions on Twitter like it matters but the fans don’t know shit. He says the fans’ opinions suck and they change on the drop of a dime.
MJF says the fans hated him because he doesn’t pretend to watch NJPW or dump his opponents on their head or that he doesn’t chase stars. He says he is the best in the world and he is the only person in the business that can make fans feel something and he doesn’t have to do a bunch of bullshit to get them there.
MJF says he is a generational talent and everyone takes him for granted. He says that he is the biggest minute-by-minute draw in the entire company but despite that he can’t reach in his pockets and pay the guy that’s been busting his ass since day one.
He says he wants to keep that money so he can keep giving it to all the ex-WWE guys he brings in that can’t even lace his boots. He asks Khan if he would treat him better if he was an ex-WWE guy and says the problem is that he got a position of power in wrestling when the only position he should have is behind a guardrail.
He says he doesn’t want to wait until 2024, he wants Tony Khan to fire him now. He starts cursing at Khan and I’m not sure what he was saying as it was all bleeped out, his mic was cut and then it went black before going to commercial.
MJF dominated the wrestling news this past weekend when he no-showed the Double or Nothing Fan Fest on Saturday. This began much speculation as to whether or not he would appear at the PPV that Sunday.
Several reports indicated MJF had purchased a ticket to fly out of Las Vegas prior to the PPV. He did appear for his match against Wardlow. MJF would lose after getting 10 powerbombs.
Tony Khan and MJF reportedly met this past Tuesday to discuss MJF’s issues with AEW. MJF will become a free agent in 2024. He has openly discussed the matter on AEW television, indicating he expects to create a bidding war between AEW and WWE for his services. MJF has been asking for a pay raise. Several reports indicate that Khan is willing to give MJF the raise if he agrees to sign an extension.
