As first reported by TMZ Sports, then confirmed by multiple sources, AEW stars Sammy Guevara and Andrade El Idolo were involved in a backstage altercation backstage at Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite, at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, DC.
Andrade was sent home, while Guevara still wrestled in the main event in a tag team match against with Chris Jericho as his partner, against Daniel Garcia and Bryan Danielson.
According to sources, words were exchanged by both men and then that is when things turned physical. Sammy allegedly pushed Andrade, and punches were thrown. As of this writing, it is unclear if anyone was hit. The altercation was real and is not part of an AEW storyline or angle, according to several sources.
The altercation stems from both men exchanging words on Twitter a few days ago
Reports indicate the altercation stemmed from both men having a dispute over twitter, and a recent interview Andrade did with Más Lucha, where he said Guevara is the only wrestler in AEW he has ever had a problem with. Apparently Guevara had accused Andrade of working stiff in a previous match they had.
TMZ sources note that several AEW wrestlers are “pissed” at Sammy for publicly airing personal/private issues, which caused things to boil over at the arena.
Andrade was set to square off with 10 of the Dark Order on this Friday’s live Rampage in an AEW career vs. mask match. However, Tony Khan announced on Twitter shortly before Dynamite went on the air, that the match was off.
