Canadian-American sports journalist, Ariel Helwani appeared on Friday night’s episode of WWE SmackDown at the Bell Centre in Montreal, QC. This was the go-home show for the Elimination Chamber, which is Saturday night at the same venue.
AEW CEO and President Tony Khan took to Twitter Friday evening to call Helwani a fraud and went on to say that Helwani is as legitimate of a reporter as Tony Schiavone.
As of this writing, Schiavone has not commented on Khan’s Twitter post.
Helwani is good friends with WWE CEO Nick Khan for many years and they are very good friends. it has been said that some of Helwani’s critics believe he tends show a pro-WWE and anti-AEW bias because of his close friendship with Nick Khan.
In October 2022, Helwani interviewed Tony Khan. He would later comment on social media, saying Khan was one of the most frustrating interviews of his career. Helwani then went on to specifically note that Khan did not want to answer any of his questions.
