FOX13 in Memphis is reporting Walker Homes resident Elizabeth Moore worries that she has lost hundreds, if not thousands of dollars to a person impersonating WWE Superstar Roman Reigns.
“There’s a lot of people that really love this man. To just find out that I’m talking to a scammer…it hurts me.”
Moore told FOX13 that she has been a huge fan of wrestling for years and in April 2023 she began texting what she believed was a phone number for the real Roman Reigns she found on the internet. She went on to say that the fake Reigns would text her with messages like “Good morning, sunshine'”.
Moore said while she looked forward to what she told FOX13 were sweet text messages, the person soon started asking her for money. The scammer then began to soliciting Moore for financial help, asking her to send “a few little dollars” to help him. At that point, she starting sending a few hundreds of dollars in gift-cards every few weeks for over two years. Moore has no idea how much money she lost.
Moore told FOX13, “I’m like, ‘Why does this man need help? My mother told me, ‘Don’t do it.’ But I didn’t pay it no attention. I thought it was the real Roman Reigns.”
On Monday night, the Panola County Sheriff’s Office in Mississippi issued a warning (see below), multiple residents had been contacted by the imposters pretending to be Reigns.
Moore went on to tell FOX13 that she was really hurt and upset. “It really hurt me. I cried all night, upset. I didn’t want to talk to nobody.” She added that even though the imposter had never agreed to a video chat or a phone call, she ignored the warning signs while mourning the loss of her mother in 2023.
As Moore warned the community, she said it is her hope the imposter is caught and put in jail.
