KATU in Portland, Oregon is reporting that Multnomah County Judge Angela Lucero ruled on Wednesday that former pro wrestler Billy Jack Haynes (real name William Albert Haynes), is unfit to to assist in his own defense.
The report notes that a copy of the order which was signed by the judge, cites a report from a certified evaluator which looked into Haynes’ behavior at the hearing, statements from his attorneys, and stipulations from both the defense and prosecutors stating he is unfit. It was also said that another hearing, per court records regarding Haynes’ fitness is scheduled for May 20.
Haynes was arrested and charged last February with the domestic violence murder of his 85-year old wife, Janette Becraft. Her death was a homicide by single gunshot wound.
His trial is currently set for this December. However, there are doubts the trial may happen, as court records indicate he could end up being committed to the Oregon State Hospital anywhere from a year to three years.
It was further noted that charging documents involved a secret grand jury indictment and no probable cause affidavit was filed with the case.
KATU-TV concludes by noting that Haynes was expected to have a preventative detention hearing, which similar to a bail hearing, where more details of the murder and case would have been released. He waived his right to the hearing twice back in April and May of 2024.
Haynes wrestled in the Florida and Pacific Northwest territories between 1984 and 1986 and WWF/E from 1986 to 1988.
