Fightful is reporting on Sunday, that WWE CEO and President Nick Khan lied that WrestleMania 40 main event plans never changed.
When recently speaking to the Sports Business Journal, Khan claimed WWE did not change plans leading up to WrestleMania 40. Cody Rhodes handed his WrestleMania 40 spot to The Rock, but then after fan backlash, he was inserted into the main event again. Although Khan said that this was always supposed to be the plan, Fighful said that this was a lie.
“Nick Khan lied to Sports Business Journal about the WWE WrestleMania 40 main event. Both publicly and privately, Cody Rhodes and others had said that if the fans knew what the actual plan was going to be with him at WrestleMania 40, they would have been even more angry. Fightful Select still has not learned exactly what that plan would have been, but it certainly was changed”, Fightful wrote.
Khan said the following to the Sport Business Journal:
“The plan was always how it ended up. Sometimes, it’s a predetermined outcome in wrestling. You want to throw the fans off and let things bake, and then boom, it ends up the way we wanted it to end up. It never changed. That was just online rumors and gossip that we were changing it. It never changed. We convinced Dwayne Johnson to come back. He’s on our board of directors. It was a tag team match. He was in phenomenal shape. He did everything we asked of him and then some, but that was always the result we were looking for.”
