New Japan Pro Wrestling ran an angle during their World Tag League finals on Monday in Fukuoka, Japan featuring former WWE star Chris Jericho making a surprise appearance and attacking IWGP United States Champion Kenny Omega.
Jericho hit Omega with a Codebreaker following Omega’s match where he teamed with The Young Bucks in a winning effort against IWGP Jr. Tag Team Champions Roppongi 3K and Rocky Romero.
A video played with Jericho threatening Omega, then when the lights came back on, Jericho was in the ring behind Omega. Jericho continued the attack, busting Omega open, which is a rarity in New Japan, with the United States Championship.
NJPW’s Don Callis hit the ring to try and reason with Jericho, but Jericho laid him out as well. This saw Callis get stretchered out, almost appearing to be a storyline exit for Callis in NJPW with the recent news of his involvement with Impact in an executive role.
Jericho will face Omega for the IWGP United States Championship at Wrestle Kingdom 12 on January 4 at the Tokyo Dome in one of two main events on the show.
Wrestleview.com will have full results from the World Tag League Finals later today.
