Tournament for NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Titles set for NJPW Wrestling World 2024 this April

NJPW announced on Tuesday the promotion is holding a one-night tournament to crown new NEVER Openweight 6-Man Tag Team Champions.

Also per the announcement, the tournament is set to take place at Wrestling World 2024 in Taiwan on April 14 at the Zepp New Taipei in New Taipei City.

NJPW vacated the Tag Team Titles at the end of January, after they had been successfully defended by Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi, and Tomohiro Ishii against The Mighty Don’t Kneel (Kosei Fujita, Mikey Nicholls, and Shane Thorne).

NJPW vacated the titles due to Okada announcing back in January that he would be leaving the promotion at the end of contract. He made AEW debut on last Wednesday’s Dynamite, joining up with the Young Bucks. It has been reported Okada signed a three-year – $13.5 million dollar deal.

When Kazuchika Okada wrestled his last match in Korakuen Hall for NJPW this past January, it was with the NEVER Openweight 6 Man Championships on the line against TMDK. With his team alongside Hiroshi Tanahashi and Tomohiro Ishii successful for their eighth defense on the night, Okada declared that he would be vacating the titles leaving the gold the center of much speculation ever since.

Now, it’s confirmed that the 27th NEVER Openweight 6 Man Tag team Champions will be crowned April 14 in Taipei, at Wrestling World 2024. A one night tournament will take place at Zepp New Taipei, with the winning team taking home the trios titles. NJPW’s return to Taiwan has gained a big stakes attraction, but who will come away with the gold?
