Former AWA announcer Larry Nelson (Larry Shipley) passed away last night after a battle with pancreatic cancer according to a report by Dave Meltzer. It is said that family and friends of Nelson were told a couple of weeks back that he only had a few weeks to live. Nelson was an announcer for the AWA in the mid to late 1980s and wrote an autobiography about his career back in 2000 entitled “Stranglehold.”
