Former WWE Superstar confirms he was brought in to train Bad Bunny for Backlash

We had reported back on May 7 that Kendrick, along with Jamie Noble, produced the San Juan Street Fight between Bunny and Damien Priest.

Former WWE Superstar and NXT Coach/Trainer Brian Kendrick confirmed on the latest edition of the Hitting the Turnbuckle podcast, that WWE did bring him in to help train Bad Bunny for his match at Backlash.

Kendrick also said the main reason WWE brought him back to help train Bunny was due to the fact that he had previously trained Bunny for his first match back at WrestleMania 37. In that match, Bunny teamed with Damien Priest to take on The Miz and John Morrison.

“It was for the Bad Bunny and Damian Priest match. The company brought me in, but it was because a few years back when they had their tag match, I worked with them. I think because of the comfort level we had built with Bunny and I, they requested me to come back for that.”

Kendrick further noted that he thinks Bunny and Logan Paul are very motivated and they both do want to be good at professional wrestling.

“Yeah, I haven’t met Logan but I think both of them are very motivated. They want to be good at this. I know Bunny put in a lot of training, he was training for months. I thought the match was awesome.”

We had reported back on February 1, 2021 that Kendrick had received his WWE release and was no longer under contract with the company.

Then the next day (February 2, 2021), just a few hours before Kendrick was set to make his debut on AEW Dynamite, past comments on a video he made from 2011 resurfaced along with a 2013 Highspots video on social media. Both videos featured Kendrick voicing his support for many different conspiracy theories, including the Sandy Hook School shooting and numerous antisemitic conspiracy theories. This led to AEW CEO and President Tony Khan pulling Kendrick from Dynamite, where he was set to face Jon Moxley. Kendrick was replaced in the match by Wheeler Yuta.

Kendrick apologize on social media for those comments.
