Ring of Honor on Sinclair Results

Hello everyone, and welcome to this week’s Ring of Honor on Sinclair recap. If you all are ready, then let’s get on with the show!
We see a video highlighting what happened during the main event of the 10th Anniversary Internet PPV before the usual intro.
From the announce table, Kevin Kelly & Nigel McGuinness welcome us to the show from the du Burns Arena in Baltimore, MD. Adam Cole comes out for the opening match and we then go to pre-match comments from Cole.
Cole says that “March 4th in New York City was the biggest night of my life”. “Pinning the World Champion, winning the main event for my team was something that I’ll never forget”. “But, I’ll also never forget Kyle O’Reilly refusing to shake my hand after the match, refusing to respect me”. “But, that’s OK Kyle, because I can promise you that sometime, somewhere, I’m gonna make you respect me”.
Adam Cole vs. Chris Silvio
Before the match, Silvio motions that he will adhere to the Code of Honor, but instead he flexes his muscles, taunting the crowd. Lock-up and Silvio with a wristlock as we see that Kyle O’Reilly has joined Kelly & McGuinness at the announce table. Cole spins out and counters into a wristlock of his own. Cole takes Silvio down into an armbar, followed by wrenching Silvio’s arm. Silvio spins out of the hold and then slaps Cole in the face. Cole charges at Silvio, who then grabs Cole in a side headlock. Irish whip by Cole, who then leapfrogs over Silvio. Cole goes off the ropes and stops in his tracks when Silvio tries for a leapfrog. Cole then gives Silvio some payback with a slap of his own. Cole follows that up with a dropkick that sends Silvio out to the outside. Cole doesn’t give Silvio any time to catch his breath as he then nails him with a slingshot plancha on the outside, while landing on his feet in the process. Back in the ring, Silvio gets the referee in between he and Cole and that distraction allows Silvio to nail Cole from behind, knocking him down.
Silvio stomps away at Cole and then chokes him with his knee, while posing to taunt the crowd. Silvio locks in a chinlock and talks trash to Cole, followed by nailing him with a crossface shot. Silvio then chokes Cole with his boot in the corner, followed by unloading with a series of forearms before being pushed back by the referee. Silvio hits another series of forearms and then goes off the ropes, hitting a swinging neckbreaker. Silvio does a kip-up, followed by doing a strut to taunt Cole some more. Silvio goes for a leaping elbow drop, but Cole rolls out of the way. Cole hits Silvio with a dropkick and then charges at him in the corner. However, Silvio moves out of the way on Cole’s charge, followed by spinning into a Crossface. Crowd tries to get Cole back into the match as Cole counters Silvio, lifting him up and connecting with a Samoan Drop.
Cole blocks Silvio’s right hand attempt and scores with a leaping neckbreaker. Cole charges at Silvio again, but Silvio tries to back body drop Cole over the ropes, however Cole lands on the apron. Cole nails Silvio with a forearm and then heads up top, hitting a hesitation missile dropkick. Silvio doesn’t know where he is as Cole lifts him up, connecting with a fireman’s carry neckbreaker with the back of Silvio’s head landing on Cole’s knee. Cole goes for the Florida Key, but Silvio blocks it. Silvio then runs into the corner, sending Cole headfirst into the top turnbuckle to break his grip. Silvio poses again and then charges, but runs right into a boot by Cole. Cole goes off the ropes, but Silvio catches him coming with a flying forearm. Silvio poses once more instead of going for the cover, followed by motioning that he is going to put Cole away. Silvio goes for Cole’s own finisher, but Cole blocks it. Cole with a back elbow, but Silvio comes back with a club to the back of Cole’s neck. Silvio goes for a back suplex, but Cole lands on his feet. Cole then nails Silvio with an enziguri to the back of the head that sends Silvio bouncing off the ropes.
Cole then hooks Silvio and hits the Florida Key (Cross-Armed German Suplex) for the victory.
Winner: Adam Cole by pinfall (Florida Key)
After the match, Kyle O’Reilly takes of the headset at the announce table and grabs the mic. “Whoa, Whoa, Whoa, Whoa”. “Hey buddy, you remember me, don’t cha?” “You seem to be on a bit of a win streak lately, Adam, its impressive”. “You want my respect?” “You wanna earn my respect?” “All you gotta do is beat me, March 31st, Ft. Lauderdale, what do ya say Adam? “Me vs. you”.
Cole grabs a mic and says “Listen, Kyle”. “Kyle, me and you have been friends for a long time, but this little PMS cycle you have been on for months is really starting to get old”. “You’ve whined and you’ve cried for far too long, so you want me in Florida? “You want me in Ft. Lauderdale?” “Kyle, you got it”.
O’Reilly says “You know what, Adam?” “I’m gonna teach you something Eddie Edwards never did”. “When all the dust is settled, everyone’s gonna know who the backbone of FutureShock really was”.
Cole & O’Reilly stare each other down as we go to commercial.

During the commercial break, we see a hype promo for the “Showdown in the Sun” Internet PPVs on March 30th & 31st as Kevin Kelly interviews the House of Truth. Roderick Strong says “This is not just a big weekend, this is the biggest weekend in Ring of Honor history”. “2 great nights of wrestling, but the 1st night is the most important”. “My home state, the Triple Threat match for the Ring of Honor World Title, to finally settle who the best wrestler in the world is”. “So tune in Friday night and watch me make history once again”.
Back from commercial, Kelly & McGuinness hype up tonight’s main event between Jay Lethal & Roderick Strong. We then go to a video of what happened at the 10th Anniversary iPPV in the match between Kevin Steen & Jimmy Jacobs.
Kevin Kelly is in the ring now as he brings out Kevin Steen. Steen comes out with his new remixed entrance music, with Davey Richards’s wolf howl at the beginning. Steen also has with him a tennis racket with Richards’s face on it. Kelly thanks Steen for joining us, to which Steen replies “You’re welcome” as he puts his arm around Kelly. Kelly’s 1st topic to ask Steen is about the new entrance music. Steen says “Noooo, are you that smart to figure out that one by yourself?” “Kevin, I have a question for you, what do you think of my tennis racket?” Kelly begins to answer, but Steen cuts him off, saying “It really doesn’t matter”. “This is what I assume Jim Cornette’s tennis racket would look like today if that maniac was allowed to carry one around”. Steen brings the racket into the camera for a close-up of it and then says “Um, there is a little something I’d like to touch on actually and its called, what’s that concept called in Florida there?” Kelly answers Steen that its the Blind Destiny Challenge. Steen says “Now, it seems to me that that whole concept is a little ironic because it seems to me that Jim Cornette may be going blind because on Saturday, I’ll be in the ring with Eddie Edwards”. “And by doing that, Jim Cornette has put me one step closer to winning the Ring of Honor World Title, which just so happens to be, my destiny, see how that works out? “Blind Destiny, get it?” “You know why, because if Eddie Edwards is successful the night before in the Ring of Honor World Title 3-way, then I’m getting a title shot”. “And you know what that tells me?” “That tells me that as much effort as Jim Cornette wants to put in keeping me away from the Ring of Honor World Title, it doesn’t matter, because sooner than later, whether he likes it or not, I will be Ring of Honor World Champion”. “And once that happens, I will hold this company hostage, just like I said I would when I came back”. “And I’m gonna make Jim Cornette pay for what he did to me for a year and a half”. “I’m gonna make him kiss my feet and they’re pretty disgusting”. “I’m gonna make him kiss my ass, which is even worse”. “And most of all, I’m gonna make him kiss my ….. as Cornette interrupts him.
Cornette makes his way to the ring and says “Wait a minute, wait a minute, wait 1 minute”. Steen says to the camera “That was close”, then says “Just in time, Mr. Cornette” as Cornette enters the ring. Steen says “Kevin, open the ropes for him, he’s gonna break a hip”. Steen raises the tennis racket and tells Cornette to stand back. Cornette says “Kevin, I don’t mean to interrupt you while you’re out here personally insulting me, the company and everyone else”. “And I don’t mean to interrupt you from your hobby you have of trying to say something real cute and vulgar that we might forget to censor”. “But, I’ve got a little news for you and I heard you out here, talking about Saturday in Ft. Lauderdale, but you gotta a ways to go to get to Saturday, because you haven’t had an opponent for Friday night, I know that doesn’t trouble you because you don’t wanna take time out from all the time you spend in the gym”. “But, you’ve got an opponent now for Friday night, would you like to know who it is, Kevin?” Steen says “I would be delighted”. Cornette says “I got an e-mail from somebody that I haven’t heard from or seen in a long time, but he contacted me and offered to be your opponent Friday night, March 30th in Ft. Lauderdale, and I made that match, I agreed to it”. “And I sent him that confirmation and he wrote back to me 2 words”. “My Spanish is not real good, but I will translate, he said, “La Revencha”. “Which means revenge”. “Kevin, you’re Pro Wrestling’s Worst Nightmare, but I talked to the guy that’s your worst nightmare”. “Because on Friday night, March 30th in Ft. Lauderdale, you’re gonna go one-on-one with the only guy that’s ever been able to get rid of you and get you out of my hair in Ring of Honor, the only guy that knows you better than anybody, the guy you piledrived through a table at Final Battle and nearly ended his career”. “Friday night, March 30th in Ft. Lauderdale Kevin, its you one-on-one with El Generico”. “And let me remind you of what’s changed since Final Battle”. “Since I banned the piledriver, if you piledrive El Generico, then you’ll be suspended”. “So, either El Generico gets rid of you or you get rid of El Generico and I get rid of you”. “But, one way or another, you’re not gonna make it to Saturday and Eddie Edwards, I’m not as stupid as you think”.
Steen says “Oh my God, are you done, please are you done?” “I will gladly take Generico on in Florida”. “And the only thing that’s gonna get suspended, because I’m not that stupid, it seems like is your sense of disbelief, cuz if you really think that’s gonna change anything, you think putting Generico in the ring with me is gonna change anything?” “You’re an idiot, because what’s gonna happen to El Generico will be the exact same thing that happened to him in December”. “I’m gonna take him out, and actually, while we’re here, let me tell you this, eye to eye and man to…. this”. “From now on, anybody that stands in my way to the Ring of Honor World Title will get taken out and that includes you” as Steen pokes Cornette in the ribs with the tennis racket. Cornette is disgusted as we go to commercial.

Back from commercial, its time for this week’s “Inside Ring of Honor”.
The first topic is the match scheduled for Showdown in the Sun on Friday, March 30th, when Lance Storm comes out of his self-imposed retirement to take on “The Prodigy” Mike Bennett. We then go to a video of comments from Storm.
Storm says “Seems I’ve upset Mr. Mike Bennett”. “Well, that’s just fine, its not the 1st time I’ve pissed somebody off by voicing my opinion”. “As a matter of fact, that was kind of the point, to get your attention”. “And now that I have your attention, let me explain a few things to you”. “Being old doesn’t necessarily mean you’re out of shape”. “And being washed up and being semi-retired are not always one in the same”. “The thing you don’t seem to realize is I’ve been a competitive athlete my entire life”. “I’ve been in the gym training longer than you’ve been alive”. “And I train with a passion and a determination that you can’t even understand”. “But, I see that same passion and determination in the eyes of every other guy in that Ring of Honor locker room, except you”. “Cuz you see Mike Bennett, you’ve got the talent, but you don’t have the passion and the determination”. “You don’t have the honor”. “Its not about having a hot girlfriend, its not about living in LA and thinking you’re important, its about pouring your heart and soul into something, something you believe in”. “So in 2 weeks, Mike Bennett, you step in the ring with Lance Storm, and if you think you’re getting in there with a washed up old fart, you better think again”.
The next topic is the main event Triple Threat match for the Ring of Honor World Title on Friday, March 30th, as champion Davey Richards defends against Roderick Strong & Eddie Edwards. We go to video of comments from the champ.
Richards says “I’ve got the toughest weekend of my life coming up”. “Night 1, Triple Threat match”. “One guy has made a name for himself breaking people”. “I know, I used to run with him.” “The other guy just won’t stay down, no matter how much I give him, he just keeps coming back”. “I know, I used to tag with him”. “And when, not if, I beat those guys, well I get a special treat, the strongest guy in professional wrestling, I call him the War Machine, Michael Elgin”. “So, uh, I walk out that weekend champion, I think I’ve earned it”. “Let’s get one thing straight, champions, athletes, whatever, sometime you win and sometimes you lose”. “That’s called sport, that’s what this is, a sport”. “But, since June 26th, when this is on the line, I’ve been perfect”. “I’ve been stainless, people ask me, how can Davey keep up this schedule, this crazy travel schedule, how can you do it, all the crazy matches, all the crazy travel, no sleep, always training”. “I’ll tell ya when someone gonna take this from me, when they walk through the hell that I have, they meet me in hell and they pry it from my cold, dead fingers”. “All challenges are welcome, come get some”.
The final topic this week is the match on Saturday, March 31st for the Ring of Honor Tag Team Titles as The Briscoes defend against Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team. We go to video of comments from both teams, 1st the champs, the Briscoes.
Jay Briscoe says “Charlie Haas, Shelton Benjamin, it ain’t no secret”. “We don’t like y’all (beep), you don’t like us”. “Yeah, you used to go around wrestling little makeshift tag teams making a name for yourself”. “Hey, y’all millionaires, congratulations”. “We came up a different path, 10 years we been grinding on the chicken farm”. “Hey, don’t get me wrong, we still 7-time ROH Tag Team Champions, but now y’all come to ROH and y’all see what the real tag teams are like”. “Y’all ain’t wrestling those makeshift (beep) on Monday nights anymore”. “We been doing this (beep) for 12 years, boy, and don’t get me wrong, I mean, we hit y’all boys with chairs, y’all hit us with chairs”. “Neither one of us don’t like each other, that ain’t no secret”. “But, the thing that gets me is, when I was handcuffed to that turnbuckle and Charlie Haas, you hit my brother in the head with that chair a month ago”. Mark says the shot didn’t hurt him as headbutts a locker, but Jay says “Its the principle of it”. “We had to go tell Papa Briscoe that we got our ass whooped by one man, how do you think that went?” “Let me tell you boys something, in Ft. Lauderdale, this (beep) is gonna hit the fan”. “You think (beep) been bad before, you just wait til we get y’all’s asses in Ft. Lauderdale, I guarantee somebody’s getting carried outta that (beep).
We go to comments from Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team, as Charlie Haas says “Mark & Jay Briscoe, you backwards ass chicken farmers, how many times you do gotta keep coming back, how many times do we keep laying you out?” “How many times do you go back to the chicken coop and you tell the big man, that drunk old daddy of yours, that you got your asses whipped?” “Answer, 1”. “Because you see, on March 31st, in Florida, that’s it, the grudge match, its over”. Shelton Benjamin says “Point is, we’re simply better than you, that’s why you’re a couple of chicken farmers and we’re Wrestling’s Greatest Tag Team”.

Back from commercial, we see a video discussing the “March Mayhem” 8-man tournament that will be taking place on ROH TV then next few weeks. All 8 men in the tournament have put up $1500, ROH matches the money with putting up $12000. Whoever wins the March Mayhem tourney wins the pot of $24000. The participants and the 1st round matches are as follows: Jay Lethal vs. Roderick Strong, Adam Cole vs. Michael Elgin, Tommaso Ciampa vs. Kyle O’Reilly & Mike Bennett vs. Eddie Edwards. The 4 winners will face off in a 4-way elimination match on April 7th edition of the ROH TV, with the winner receiving the $24,000 prize.
We then see video of the TV Title match from the 10th Anniversary iPPV between champion Jay Lethal and the undefeated Tommaso Ciampa as we go to commercial.

Edwards says “Showdown in the Sun, its the 2 men that have been very important in my career”. “Roderick Strong, the man I beat for the title, and Davey Richards, my-ex partner, who beat me for the title”. “Ft. Lauderdale, Showdown in the Sun, they are gonna experience what Die Hard is all about and I am leaving with that World Championship”.
Main Event in a March Mayhem Qualifier: Ring of Honor Television Champion Jay Lethal vs. Roderick Strong w/Truth Martini
Both men adhere to the Code of Honor before the bell sounds. Both men feel each other out before locking up. Strong with a side headlock takedown, but Lethal with a head scissors. Lethal gets a 1 count and then kips up to his feet as we have a stalemate. Both men go for a knucklelock, but Strong with a knee to the gut, followed by wrenching Lethal’s arm and finally going to a wristlock. Lethal spins out and then kips up twice, followed by countering into a wristlock of his own on Strong. Strong counters with a single leg takedown and goes into a leglock. Lethal spins out, but Strong then locks in almost a standing version of a STF. Lethal then counters Strong and goes for his leg, but Strong gets to the ropes to break. Lock-up and Strong with a side headlock. Irish whip by Lethal, but Strong takes him down with a shoulder tackle. Strong goes off the ropes, Lethal leapfrogs and then he goes off the ropes, hitting Strong with a rana. Lethal then hits a dropkick. Lethal with a slam, followed by a quick leg drop for a nearfall. Strong backs off into the corner as Lethal goes after him. Lethal with a right hand, but as Strong tries to come back with a kick, Lethal catches his foot and takes him down with a back heel trip. Lethal then nails Strong with a stomp to the ribs, followed by a suplex for a 1 count. Headfirst goes Strong off the top turnbuckles as Lethal goes to the middle rope. Lethal hits the 10 punches, followed by doing a pose as Strong is wobbly. Lethal goes for a right hand, but instead piefaces Strong down for a nearfall. Strong fires back with a knee to the gut and a right hand. Irish whip by Strong, but misses a clothesline and a back elbow as Lethal ducks under both. Lethal holds on to the ropes as Strong charges in and Lethal back body drops Strong over the ropes, but Strong lands on the apron. Strong with a right hand, but Lethal blocks being sent headfirst off the top turnbuckle and sends Strong in himself. Lethal then springs off the middle rope and catches Strong with a dropkick that knocks Strong off the apron and crashing to the outside. Lethal gets a head of steam, ready to dive, and nails Strong with a tope, sending Strong crashing into the barricade. Lethal goes back in the ring and is all fired up as we go to commercial.

Back from commercial as Lethal goes off the ropes and sidesteps Strong’s back body drop attempt with a boot to the face. Lethal goes back off the ropes, but Strong catches him with a powerslam for a nearfall. Headfirst goes Lethal off the top turnbuckle, followed by a chop from Strong. We see that during the commercial break, Truth Martini interfered while the referee was distracted with Strong and pulled Lethal’s leg as he was going for a springboard. Back to live action, Strong gets a nearfall and then locks in a Camel Clutch. Crowd tries to will on Lethal as he gets to his feet. Lethal breaks Strong’s grip with elbows to the gut. Lethal goes off the ropes, but Strong catches him coming in with a dropkick for another nearfall. Strong with a reverse curb stomp, followed by a regular stomp and finally an elbow to the top of Lethal’s head. Strong with a club to the back as the crowd chants “Let’s go Lethal”. Strong with a forearm, but all it is doing is lighting a fire under Lethal. Strong with another forearm, but it is having no effect on Lethal as he continues to fire up. Both men then exchange right hands in the middle of the ring, with Lethal getting the advantage. Lethal unloads with a series of chops and right hands on Strong, but Strong comes back and takes down Lethal with a drop toe hold, followed by raining in right hands to the back of Lethal’s head. Strong locks in a cross-arm choke as the crowd tries to will back on Lethal. Lethal gets back to his feet and drives Strong into the turnbuckles to break the hold. Lethal with a series of chops, followed by a series of right hands. Irish whip by Lethal, reversed by Strong. Strong charges, but Lethal moves out of the way. Lethal now charges, but runs into a boot by Strong. Strong charges at Lethal, but Lethal catches him with an enziguri.
Both men are down as the referee begins his 10 count. Both are up at 7 as they exchange right hands once more. Lethal ducks Strong’s attempt and goes off the ropes, hitting a flying forearm. Lethal with a spinning heel kick, followed by the hiptoss/cartwheel/dropkick combo. Lethal kips up and is all fired up. Irish whip by Lethal, reversed by Strong once again. Strong charges, but runs into a boot by Lethal. Lethal goes up to the middle rope and hits a leg lariat for a nearfall. Lethal measures Strong and goes for the Lethal Combination, but Strong blocks it with elbows to the head. Lethal fires back with a spinning back kick to the gut. Lethal goes off the ropes, but Strong charges in with him and nails Lethal with a knee to the gut. Strong then hits a slingshot Falcon Arrow for a nearfall. Strong is beginning to get frustrated as he goes back after Lethal. Strong with a series of chops and forearms, followed by a running forearm in the corner. Strong goes for a back suplex, but Lethal lands on his feet. Strong misses a clothesline as Lethal ducks under. Lethal then handsprings off the ropes and hits a handspring elbow for another nearfall. Lethal motions that he is going up top as Martini is shouting encouragement to Strong on the outside. Lethal starts to head up top, but Martini gets on the apron to distract him. Strong charges at Lethal, looking to nail him from behind, but Lethal moves and Strong has to put on the brakes to avoid hitting Martini. Lethal charges at Strong, but Strong ducks and Lethal nails Martini with a right hand, knocking him off the apron. The distraction, though, allows Strong to roll-up Lethal with his feet on the ropes, but Lethal still kicks out.
Strong thought he had the match won as he & Lethal once again exchange right hands. Lethal with another series of chops and right hands to Strong, retreating him to the corner. Irish whip by Lethal and he blocks Strong’s boot on his charge in, but Strong fires back with an enziguri. Strong lifts up Lethal and hits the Death by Roderick for a close nearfall. Strong motions that its over with and is waiting for Lethal to get back up. Strong sets up for the Gibson Driver, but Lethal blocks it. Lethal blocks it a 2nd time and then counters with a jackknife pin for a close nearfall. Strong goes for a discus forearm, but Lethal catches him and hits the Lethal Combination. Lethal heads up top as Martini gets back up on the apron. All of a sudden, Michael Elgin comes from the back and stops Lethal on the apron. Lethal with a right hand to Elgin, but it has no effect. Elgin with a kick to the ribs of Lethal and then lifts him up, but Lethal gets out and back into the ring. Strong goes for an O’Connor Roll, but Lethal counters it and Strong runs in to Elgin, knocking him off the apron.
Lethal then with his own O’Connor Roll as the referee turns around for the victory.

My Thoughts
Decent show this week, but a little off from their recent efforts.
Opener was OK, but it did not do a good job at getting over Cole as this new singles star when Silvio was getting IMO, way too much offense on him. Silvio is only an enhancement guy, so he should not be having a competitive match with Cole. Think this did more to hurt Cole than to hurt him.
Main event with Lethal and Strong was a much better match than their Glory by Honor match from November because they worked a much faster pace and had a good series of nearfalls towards the end. Match never lacked any real lull in action as Strong and Lethal both worked hard to put on a better effort than the previous effort. Finish was interesting as to me, it definitely sowed the seeds for a break-up of the House of Truth down the line. Only problem with the match is that its happening on iPPV in 2 weeks. Bad booking on ROH’s point there, but the match itself was good.
Finally, the promo work this week garnered on OK to very good. While Strong & Edwards cut decent promos, I thought Richards cut a pretty good confident promo to build up the main event triple threat match. The one thing that does help Richards in his promos are his confidence where he knows he the best and can’t nobody stop him. Its weird for a babyface because it works more for a heel but it seems to work, at least to me, for Richards.
The O’Reilly/Cole exchange was solid in setting up their match as I think O’Reilly is a pretty decent talker, while Cole needs a little more work. The Briscoes/WGTT back and forth was the same as previous weeks, but still did good to continue to get over their feud for the iPPV. Storm’s promo was OK, but I felt it dragged too much with him starting to say the same things over and over again. But what he had to get over in the promo itself I thought was done well.
To close things out, the Cornette/Steen back and forth was again like the Briscoes/WGTT, the same as previous weeks but did a decent enough job in setting up the Steen/Generico and the fact that while Cornette continues to throw roadblocks in Steen’s path, Steen will do nothing but continue to mow those roadblocks down.
Overall, it was a decent show, but after the last couple of good weeks of TV, this was on the lesser end of their performances.
My Grade: C+
