Report: Renee Young will be part of commentary for Crown Jewel in Saudi Arabia

Renee Young

Pro Wrestling Sheet is reporting that Renee Young will be part of the commentary team for this Friday’s WWE Crown Jewel event from Saudi Arabia.

The story, which was also being reported by Dave Meltzer of The Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Online, stated it remains to be seen if Young will have to follow “certain guidelines or rules to follow because of the country’s numerous restrictions for women.”

As was the case with April’s Greatest Royal Rumble event, women will not be allowed to wrestle on the event. Women were previously not allowed to be part of the broadcast team for the first event in April, but it would appear that is changing this year.

If you recall, the Saudi General Sport Authority issued an apology shortly after the event after WWE aired a promotional video featuring female talent.

The statement read:

“The General Sport Authority would like to apologize to the viewers and attendees of last night’s WWE event that took place in Jeddah, over the indecent scene involving women that appeared as an ad before a segment. It would like to confirm it’s total disapproval of this, in the shadow of its commitment to eliminate anything that goes against the communities values. The authority has made sure to ban showing of any segment that involves women wrestling or any scenes related to it, and stipulated that to the company (WWE). The authority also disapproved any promotional stuff with pictures or videos showing women in an indecent way, and emphasized on commitment of this rule. And it’s a commitment that the authority would still commit to forever in all of it’s events and programs.”

All WWE talent involved with Crown Jewel were scheduled to begin travel today.

Attempts by Wrestleview.com to confirm Young’s role on commentary at the event this Friday with WWE has not yet received a response.
