4-Way Iron Man Match for the NXT Title ends in controversy; Sudden Death set for next week

New NXT Champion to be crowned next week

On tonight’s special Super Tuesday NXT episode, the 4-Way Iron Man Match ended in controversy.

The 4-Way 1-hour Iron Man Match for the vacant NXT Championship ended in a draw. The match ended with Adam Cole and Finn Bálor having two falls each. Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano had only one fall each.

NXT General Manager William Regal ruled that Finn Bálor and Adam Cole would face each other next week on NXT Super Tuesday II in a Sudden Death Match for the vacant NXT Championship.

Here is how the final part of the match went down, courtesy of our NXT recap:

Bálor is sitting on his knees in the ring with 15 seconds left to go. It appears he is going to be the new NXT Champion… but Cole hits him with the Last Shot! Cole turns him over and covers with 3 seconds left. 1… 2… 3… Cole scores a fall before time elapses!

Bálor: 2
Ciampa: 1
Cole: 2
Gargano: 1

The referee is confused as to what to do. More referees run down to help out. NXT General Manager William Regal is holding the NXT Championship. Next week on NXT Super Tuesday II, Finn Bálor and Adam Cole will face each other for the NXT Championship. It’ll be one-fall to the finish!

Karrion Kross defeated Keith Lee for the NXT Championship at NXT TakeOver XXX in August. Kross suffered a separated shoulder during the match and vacated the title this past Wednesday on NXT, leading to this Iron Man Match.
