WWE NXT results, Dec. 9, 2020: Contenders line up to challenge The Prince

Pete Dunne, Kyle O’Reilly and Damian Priest staked their claim to an opportunity against NXT Champion Finn Bálor, while Karrion Kross returned in devastating fashion and brutalized The Archer of Infamy. Elsewhere, Raquel González scored a huge win over Ember Moon before being confronted by Rhea Ripley, Tommaso Ciampa knocked off Cameron Grimes, and The Grizzled Young Veterans made a major statement.

Several challengers confronted Finn Bálor

Finn Bálor promised that all eyes would return to The Prince, and he wasn’t wrong. Pete Dunne, Kyle O’Reilly and Damian Priest all confronted the NXT Champion to stake their claim for a title opportunity before Bálor exited the ring, only to be confronted by Scarlett, who hadn’t been seen since Karrion Kross relinquished the NXT Title due to injury. Before leaving, Bálor declared that he would put the title on the line at NXT New Year’s Evil, but against whom?

Jake Atlas def. Isaiah “Swerve” Scott

Isaiah “Swerve” Scott dominated much of the bout, but one miscalculation proved costly. With “Swerve” pinning Jake Atlas in a cradle pin, Atlas reversed the combination for a lightning-quick victory. Incensed with his defeat, “Swerve” refused Atlas’ handshake afterward.

The Grizzled Young Veterans def. Ever-Rise and Imperium in a Triple Threat Tag Team Match

A week removed from a chaotic encounter involving all three teams, they met again in an official capacity to try to settle the score. Ever-Rise dodged much of the early action, largely leaving The Grizzled Young Veterans and Imperium to duke it out with each other. Zack Gibson & James Drake prevailed after dropping Chase Parker with the Ticket to Mayhem for a pivotal win in the NXT Tag Team Title picture.

Tommaso Ciampa def. Cameron Grimes

Much like Tommaso Ciampa did weeks ago during one of Timothy Thatcher’s matches, the dean of Thatch-As-Thatch-Can pulled up a front-row seat for himself during this bout. While Thatcher’s intentions were unclear, Grimes stepped up to go hold for hold with The Blackheart, but he couldn’t find a way to put Ciampa away.

Tyler Rust, the former student of Thatcher’s who helped ambush Ciampa previously, attempted to attack, but Ciampa snuffed out his plot and planted Grimes with the Willow’s Bell for the victory. Upon being confronted afterward by Ciampa, Thatcher insisted he had nothing to do with the interference.

Karrion Kross returned to attack Damian Priest

New NXT North American Champion Johnny Gargano, victorious WarGames captain Candice LeRae, Austin Theory and Indi Hartwell took the ring for a post-TakeOver victory lap, coining their alliance as “The Way.” The celebration was cut short by Damian Priest, though The Archer of Infamy didn’t speak for long before Karrion Kross returned to brutalize Priest, smashing him through a table with a massive powerbomb.

Pete Dunne def. Killian Dain

Unleashing weeks of pent-up fury after suffering a heinous assault at the hands of Pete Dunne, Killian Dain brought the fight to The BruiserWeight, nearly scoring a win after hitting a fisherman’s superplex. NXT Tag Team Champions Oney Lorcan & Danny Burch arrived at ringside to stop a potential Vader Bomb attempt in its tracks until Drake Maverick arrived and wielded the chair to even the odds.

The chaos on the outside devolved into an all-out melee and took Dain’s focus away from Dunne for too long, allowing Dunne to recover and drop his foe with the Bitter End.

Raquel González def. Ember Moon

Raquel González used her domineering strength to overpower Ember Moon, but she had difficulty keeping her down. The former NXT Women’s Champion fought back, sparking a late rally with a huge suplex and DDT sandwiched around a devastating series of kicks. But González stymied Moon, lawn-darting her face-first into the steel post.

“Big Mami Cool” also countered an Eclipse attempt and rocked Moon with a monstrous clothesline. Though Moon avoided González’s first attempt at the single-arm powerbomb, the second try found its mark, and González earned another huge win.

Toni Storm came to the ring afterward, seemingly looking for a pound of flesh from Moon, but Moon’s WarGames teammate Rhea Ripley arrived to provide backup before engaging in a smoldering staredown with the rival González.
