Mark Shapiro spoke with Brian Sozzi of Yahoo! Finance ahead of WrestleMania 42, addressing the decision to move the event from its originally scheduled site of New Orleans to Las Vegas.
The TKO President took responsibility for the move, which saw WrestleMania emanate from Allegiant Stadium for the second year in a row, conceding the potential issue with the decision:
Maybe it’s a mistake I made, because Vegas was so huge last year and such a winner for our fans and the product that I said to Nick Khan, ‘We’ve gotta go back to Vegas next year. We have to move New Orleans down the road and we got to come back to Vegas.’
Despite this, Shapiro stated there were “absolutely no regrets” on the event going back to Vegas, adding:
The only reason you’re hearing some of the, ‘Hey it’s not what it was last year,’ it’s because we’re not benefiting from the first mover experience.
WrestleMania 43 is currently scheduled to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 2027, marking the annual event’s first iteration outside North America.
