Predictions from the Faculty
WWE Night of Champions 2011 Edition
September 18, 2011
Predictions by: Wrestleview Columnists and Staff
Written by: Anthony J. Valvo of Wrestleview.com
Introduction
Welcome to the latest edition of “Predictions from the Faculty” (Season #3). This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming WWE Pay-Per-View, as we will provide our selections for WWE Night of Champions, where every championship in the WWE will be defended. The show will be held in Buffalo, NY, the home of the great sports franchise known as the Buffalo Bandits.
The card will have seven matches. There will be only one non-title match and six title matches.
In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists on Wrestleview provide predictions on who they think will win the matches. We accumulate the records throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case, the 2012 Royal Rumble).
What makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to have yours posted in an upcoming PPV. All the readers have to do is either leave me a message on Facebook or e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com. The winner among the “Wrestleview Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks as a “Student of the Week” (if they outright defeat the reigning Students of the Week). We all thank you for your participation.
Tie-Breakers will determine standings!
I have decided to prevent some tiebreakers, I will issue points to Title Matches that are predicted correctly. There will be six championship matches on the card, so the maximum amount of points to go along with the win/loss standing will be six points (very big if you want to update your score). Also, if I throw out a pick for a championship, then obviously no bonus will be counted for that particular match.
But what, to the Wrestleview “students”, there is more!
I got approval for this decision, and for the FIRST time in our three seasons the students will compete for PRIZES!!! That is right; we felt that your loyalty to the article shall be rewarded. However, the prizes* will not be handed out until the FINAL PPV Prediction of the season (which will be WWE’s Royal Rumble 2012). So not only will one get a chance to earn a Gold Star and be a part of this game, but it will be for a competition.
*Prizes go out to the top three (the most picked correctly and if needed tiebreaker points) positions and the worst (most matches picked incorrectly with the fewest tiebreaker points).

Tie-Breaker Points – Which are based on Championship matches correct
33: Gregory Walek
32: Ryan Rivera
31: Jose Marrero; Nicholas Gray; Mike Tedesco;
30: Dave Stephens
28: Josh Boutwell; Anthony Valvo; Greg McNeish
25: Evan O’Brien
24: Andrew Hayman
23: Matt O’Brien; Darragh O’Connor
The Students of the Week for Night of Champions will be Paul Smith. Mr. Smith earned it be getting every match on the TNA No Surrender card correct. Currently, Mr. Smith has not sent his predictions. However, once I get the picks they will be added under the comments in this article.
And of course, the WV Students average will be part of the standings. I have taken out the “Students of the Week” for this season. However, do not worry. Those that scored the highest will still be welcomed to participate in an upcoming article.
The Best of the Class (Top 3 earn a prize. Tie-Breaker Points in parentheses)
Prizes:
1st Place – A DVD Set of our choosing (max 3 disc set).
2nd Place – A T-Shirt
3rd Place – A Coffee Mug
Worst – TNA Victory Road 2009 (or 2011) DVD.
The WrestleView Reader Leaderboard
I will just type out the top readers at this time. The first set of parentheses is the W/L record for TNA’s Hardcore Justice PPV. The second parentheses are the Tie-Breaker points.
1) Jordan Benterman…………………………………………..68-40 (5-3) (32) – Tie #1
2) Michael Fox……………………………………………………68-40 (6-2) (32) – Tie #1
3) Paul Meade……………………………………………………..67-41 (4-4) (32) – #2
4) Jason Namako…………………………………………………66-42 (5-3) (29) – #3
5) Brian Czygan……………………………………………………65-43 (5-3) (33)
6) Wade Bradford………………………………………………..65-43 (6-2) (29)
The person with the most picks incorrect is currently 59-49 with 26 tiebreaker points. Therefore, I deem that score the worst.
Also to those that have participated in all the previous PPVs, keep it up. You can still be a Student of the Week.
And now, the moment you all have been waiting for…
Predictions for WWE’s Night of Champions 2011
*** NON-TITLE MATCHES ***
Singles Match
Stipulation: If HHH loses this match, then he is out as the WWE C.O.O.
Triple H (COO) vs. CM Punk
Jose M. – HHH.
Gregory W. – HHH.
Ryan R. – TRIPLE H.
Dave S. – TRIPLE H.
Nick G. – In order to prevent a nuclear holocaust Punk should win, but I am picking TRIPLE H.
Mike T. – TRIPLE H by a screw finish most likely involving Kevin Nash.
Greg M. – CM PUNK; Not very sold on this pick, but for Punk to have legs, they can’t afford to wait, before injecting Johnny Ace and his random crop of floozies into the mix. This would also leave room for Steph to pop in, if she’s so inclined.
Anthony V. – TRIPLE H. It may be a wasted pick, but there is no way HHH loses unless he truly means it when he said it is a young man’s business.
Evan O. – TRIPLE H.
Josh B. – PUNK.
Matt O. – HHH.
Darragh O. – TRIPLE H.
Andrew H. – TRIPLE H.
Paul S. – TBD.
CONSENSUS: TRIPLE H. In a match that will determind HHH’s status as the C.O.O., the majority of the staff believes he will be the winner and maintain order in the WWE.
Triple H 11 – CM Punk 2.
*** CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES ***
Singles Match for the WWE Diva’s Championship
Kelly Kelly (c) vs. Beth Phoenix
Jose M. – BETH.
Gregory W. – BETH PHOENIX.
Ryan R. – BETH PHOENIX.
Dave S. – BETH PHOENIX.
Nick G. – Let’s go with BETH “DARK” PHOENIX
Mike T. – BETH PHOENIX.
Greg M. – BETH PHOENIX; Yeah, I’m done with the Kelly Kelly experiment. I’d prefer this was Nattie, but there is so much more intrigue to the Divas of Doom and the Bellas, than there ever was with bland Kelly.
Anthony V. – BETH PHOENIX. It is well-deserved as well. She looks dominant as ever. However, be concerned voters. Buffalo is Beth Country. Hope it does not disappoint.
Evan O. – KELLY KELLY.
Josh B. – BETH.
Matt O. – PHOENIX.
Darragh O. – BETH PHOENIX.
Andrew H. – KELLY KELLY
Paul S. – TBD.
CONSENSUS: BETH PHOENIX. Let’s face it, the Kelly Kelly run should be over. Beth’s run with the Diva’s Title begins in her hometown of Buffalo. The staff predicts a new Diva Champion.
Beth Phoenix 11 – Kelly Kelly 2.
Basic Tag Team Match for the WWE Tag Team Championship
Air Boom (Kofi Kingston & Evan Bourne) (c’s) vs. The Miz and R-Truth
Jose M. – AIR BOOM.
Gregory W. – MIZ AND R-TRUTH.
Ryan R. – MIZ AND R-TRUTH.
Dave S. – AIR BOOM.
Nick G. – TEAM AWESOME TRUTH.
Mike T. – AIR BOOM.
Greg M. – AIR BOOM; This title change would be better served on RAW, the next night.
Anthony V. – AIR BOOM. It won’t surprise me if Miz and Truth win, but they won their singles matches and I don’t see Kofi and Evan as short term champions.
Evan O. – AIR BOOM.
Josh B. – AIR BOOM.
Matt O. – MIZ AND TRUTH.
Darragh O. – THE MIZ AND R-TRUTH.
Andrew H. – AIR BOOM
Paul S. – TBD
CONSENSUS: AIR BOOM. If The Miz and Truth actually read these predictions, they would call most of the staff “Little Jimmys” and cry conspiracy. While this makeshift team looks great, now is not the time to earn the titles. Expect Air Boom to not only have the worst team name, but retain the WWE Tag Titles.
Air Boom 8 – The Miz and R-Truth 5.
Fatal 4-Way Match for the WWE United States Championship
Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Jack Swagger vs. Alex Riley vs. John Morrison
Jose M. – JOHN MORRISON.
Gregory W. – DOLPH ZIGGLER.
Ryan R. – SWAGGER.
Dave S. – ALEX RILEY.
Nick G. – JSWAGGS.
Mike T. – ALEX RILEY.
Greg M. – JOHN MORRISON; F’ my life, I just pick John F’n Morrison to win a belt.
Anthony V. – SWAGGER. If a guy needs a gimmick change, it is Swagger. Vickie Guerrero helps Jack get some new swagger and some “swag” with the U.S. Title.
Evan O. – JACK SWAGGER.
Josh B. – MORRISON.
Matt O. – RILEY.
Darragh O. – ZIGGLER.
Andrew H. – JOHN MORRISON.
Paul S. – TBD
CONSENSUS: (tie) JOHN MORRISON and JACK SWAGGER. It was a very close vote, but surprisingly the champion will not be the winner in this 4-way. Swagger may have Vickie in the future, while Morrison appears to be on the cusp on holding another championship. The safe bet here is to pick a new United States Champion. And it may be Morrison or Swagger.
John Morrison 4 – Jack Swagger 4 – Alex Riley 3 – Dolph Ziggler 2.
Singles Match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship
Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Ted DiBiase, Jr.
Jose M. – CODY RHODES.
Gregory W. – CODY RHODES.
Ryan R. – CODY RHODES.
Dave S. – CODY RHODES.
Nick G. – Let’s go with TED JR…why not.
Mike T. – CODY RHODES.
Greg M. – CODY RHODES; this would be a very hotshotted move, if they went with Teddy. He’s a good candidate to take the IC title, but this should get drawn out another month.
Anthony V. – RHODES. I think Ted will be the next Intercontinental Champion, but not this weekend. It needs buildup, and I have no problem with Rhodes as champion now.
Evan O. – CODY RHODES.
Josh B. – CODY.
Matt O. – RHODES.
Darragh O. – TED DIBIASE.
Andrew H. – TED DIBIASE.
Paul S. – TBD.
CONSENSUS: CODY RHODES. Rhodes might be disfigured and grotesque under the mask. However, the staff knows this feud has legs, and that the champion retains the title.
Cody Rhodes 10 – Ted DiBiase 3.
Singles Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Randy Orton (c) vs. Mark Henry
Jose M. – RANDY ORTON.
Gregory W. – MARK HENRY.
Ryan R. – MARK HENRY.
Dave S. – RANDY ORTON.
Nick G. – RKO.
Mike T. – MARK HENRY.
Greg M. – RANDY ORTON; Henry is the right guy to take the WHC, but Hell in a Cell is the time to do it. Orton with a flash pin.
Anthony V. – ORTON. What a truly underrated story this has been. Henry is at his very best and is finally a true threat to a world title. Orton barely escapes. However, it could be a shocker. It is my projected match of the night.
Evan O. – RANDY ORTON.
Josh B. – ORTON.
Matt O. – ORTON.
Darragh O. – MARK HENRY.
Andrew H. – MARK HENRY.
Paul S. – TBD.
CONSENSUS: RANDY ORTON. Mark Henry has been on a path to the “Hall of Pain” the past few months. While a handful thinks that it leads to a World Title, most of the staff disagree and predict that Orton will retain the championship.
Randy Orton 8 – Mark Henry 5.
Singles Match for the WWE World Championship
Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. John Cena
Jose M. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.
Gregory W. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.
Ryan R. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.
Dave S. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.
Nick G. – I feel weird saying this but I think Cena continues his streak of losing on PPVs…I’ll go with DEL RIO.
Mike T. – JOHN CENA.
Greg M. – ALBERTO DEL RIO; I’m not big on ADR, but he’s the guy they’ve chosen to delay Cena’s big run to Mania. That shouldn’t start until late fall/early winter, so Del Rio retains. The more Ricardo Rodriguez antics we get the better.
Anthony V. – DEL RIO. I think they put Del Rio in a tough spot as the WWE Champ. If he loses, many will say it is a fluke. If he wins, it is a big one for Del Rio. Besides, in two weeks it is Hell in a Cell. Cena will be champ in two weeks.
Evan O. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.
Josh B. – ADR.
Matt O. – DEL RIO.
Darragh O. – JOHN CENA.
Andrew H. – ALBERTO DEL RIO.
Paul S. – TBD.
CONSENSUS: ALBERTO DEL RIO. All this author can say is this month, be careful if you pick John Cena to win back his WWE Championship. Only two people believe that he will. The safe pick this weekend will be the current champion.
Alberto Del Rio 11 – John Cena 2.
