Ring Boy lawsuit moving forward after Maryland Supreme Court ruling

The Ring Boy Lawsuit against WWE will be moving forward after the Maryland Supreme Court ruled 4-3 on Monday that the Child Victims Act, which allowed the lawsuit to be filed, is indeed constitutional. This past December, Judge James K. Bredar granted WWE’s motion to stay on the suit pending a decision by the court.

Just this last October, law firm DiCello Levitt filed suit on behalf of five survivors for what has been referred to as the ‘ring boy scandal’. The lawsuit alleges that Vince and Linda McMahon and WWE knew that the underage boys were groomed and sexually abused by then WWE ring crew boss and ring announcer Mel Phillips, which took place in the 1980’s and early 1990’s. In addition, the lawsuit references several examples of former WWE personnel and talent noting it was common knowledge of the sexual abuse don by Phillips. Furthermore, the lawsuit alleges that the McMahon’s and WWE did nothing to prevent Phillips from sexual assaulting the boys. WWE fired Phillips fired in 1992 after the allegations were made public.

The state’s General Assembly in 2023 passed the Child Victims Act, which retroactively appeals the statue of limitations on lawsuits dealing with child sexual abuse.
