WWE officially announces the departure of Alberto Del Rio from the company on Friday, full statement

Alberto Del Rio

WWE issued the following statement on WWE.com on Friday announcing the departure of Alberto Del Rio (Jose Rodriguez) from the company:

WWE and Jose Rodriguez (Alberto Del Rio) have mutually agreed upon the terms of his release as of today, September 9, 2016.

Del Rio is set to hold a press conference later today in Mexico to talk about his situation with WWE, presumably now to talk about his departure from the company and what his future involves.

This is Del Rio’s second departure from WWE in the last two years. Del Rio was first released in 2014 after an incident with a social media employee. Del Rio returned to WWE in October 2015, defeating John Cena for the WWE US Title at the Hell in the Cell PPV. Del Rio last wrestled for WWE on the 8/16 episode of Smackdown Live, also against Cena. Del Rio, along with girlfriend, Paige, were suspended the following day for violation of WWE’s Wellness Policy. Del Rio’s WWE contract was said to be expiring in October prior to the announcement of his departure.
