Earlier on a special live episode of AEW Rampage on TNT, CM Punk relinquished the AEW World Championship, just five nights after winning the belt from “Hangman” Adam Page at Double or Nothing in Las Vegas, Nevada.
AEW then announced that interim champion will be crowned at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view on June 26. On this Wednesday’s Dynamite, there will be a battle royal. The winner of battle royal will wrestle No. 1 contender Jon Moxley to crown an interim AEW World Champion at Forbidden Door.
Punk appeared live to make the announcement. Based on the information in his announcement, Punk appears to have a broken foot. He will require surgery.
Punk said this is just “a bump in the road” as he put over the talented younger guys, and further said that he did not want to hold up AEW. He closed by saying that he promised to come back bigger, faster, stronger and more hungry that ever before.
