Kurt Angle says Real American Freestyle is ‘going to be incredible’

In an interview with TMZ Sports, Kurt Angle shared his excitement in working with the upcoming Real American Freestyle project as a commentator and analyst.

Speaking on past attempts to create a professional presentation of amateur wrestling, the WWE Hall of Famer stated:

There have been other people who have tried professional wrestling leagues before with Olympic-style wrestling, freestyle wrestling, it didn’t work out. But with Real American Freestyle, they signed the top wrestlers in the world, and they have the backing, the funding, to do this. So this is going to be incredible.

Angle even noted that a league like this would have suited him greatly when he was coming off of his run at the 1996 Summer Olympics.

This would have been my thing. You know, I don’t even know if I would have crossed over into pro wrestling. I probably would have stuck with amateur wrestling. I’m a little jealous, but I’m also excited to be a part of it. And whether I have to commentate, whether I can compete, doesn’t matter. I just wanted to be a part of it.

The project will see Angle work with fellow Hall of Famers in co-founders Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff, whom Angle says will be able to “make this a little more entertaining than a regular amateur wrestling duel would be.”

Real American Freestyle holds its first event on August 30 from the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio, which will air on the Fox Nation streaming service.
