We reported earlier this week that per PWInsider, Johnny Gargano’s return to Monday night’s WWE Raw was said to be a creative decision and that plans for Gargano’s return were locked in towards the end of the weekend with him traveling to Raw in San Jose on early Monday and being kept hidden.
Fightful Select has also provided some additional backstage news on Johnny Gargano’s surprise return which took place on this past Monday’s WWE Raw.
After Tommaso Ciampa was unsuccessful in capturing the Intercontinental Championship from Gunther, all members of Imperium attacked Ciampa. Gargano then came out to make the save.
Fightful Select notes that Gargano was set to return after Ciampa faced Seth Rollins for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship back on the June 19 episode of Raw. It was also noted that originally the match was scripted to end with Judgment Day doing a run in and Gargano coming in to save Ciampa from an attack.
The report also notes WWE constantly changed the plans for the June 19 episode of Raw, which frustrated many backstage.
