Backstage details on the signing of Tama Tonga by WWE

Tama Tonga made his WWE debut on Friday night’s WWE SmackDown, aligning with Solo Sikoa and attacking Jimmy Uso.

According to Fightful Select, WWE has been interested in Tonga going all the way back to 2016 when they signed AJ Styles, Karl Anderson, Luke Gallows and Shinsuke Nakamura. At that time, Tonga chose to stay in NJPW so he could work alongside his brothers Hikuleo and Tonga Loa.

Fightful Select also notes that WWE had interest in Hikuleo and Tonga last year, but the hiring freeze that took place after Vince McMahon worked his way back into WWE any further signings at the time, prevented him from signing with the company.

Jacob Fatu, who has told people he has signed with WWE was backstage at WrestleMania 40 in at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, PA. It was further said an idea that floated around in the WWE, was going to have Fatu and Tonga team together like their fathers Tonga Kid and Haku did.
