Variety is reporting that NXT Superstar Jordynne Grace has joined the cast of the new fantasy film “Welcome to Paradise”, thus making her screen debut.
The report notes the film, which is currently in post-production mixes psychological drama, dark comedy and mythic surrealism that centers on a mysterious carnival where winning may mean survival and losing could trap visitors in an alternate reality forever.
Rounding out the cast is Matthew Horne, Georgina Bennett, Kirk Patterson, Togo Igawa (“Tetris,” “Johnny English”), Tracey Wilkinson (“Carnival Row”) and the late Simon Fisher-Becker (“Harry Potter,” “Doctor Who”). The film also includes British actor Bill Nighy, who provides voice work for the movie.
The film, which is written and directed by Richard Summers-Calvert (“Drive Me to the End”), follows Lisa, who awakens on a mysterious beach with no memory. After meeting a creature who tells her she’s arrived at “The Carnival,” she discovers a vibrant venue populated by humans and magical beasts. There she meets Harvey, another lost soul, as they attempt to uncover the truth about their pasts and find redemption — though everything comes with a price.
“Welcome to Paradise” is slated for a late 2025 release, with filmmakers looking to show the movie at various film festivals.
Grace is set to compete in next Saturday’s NXT Great American Bash, as she will be teaming up with Blake Monroe (former AEW star Mariah May), against NXT Women’s Champion Jacy Jayne and Fallon Henry of Fatal Influence. The event will air live on Peacock in the US and on Netflix for international fans, from Atlanta’s Center Stage, beginning at 2:30 pm ET.
