In an interview with The Takedown on SI, AJ Lee talked about her return to WWE after over a decade, and what it means to be gearing up for the first singles contest at WrestleMania in her career.
Lee, who returned to the company last September after last competing the night after WrestleMania 31 in 2015, addressed what it felt like seeing the impact of her first run firsthand while backstage since her return:
It’s kind of like being at your own funeral a little bit (laughing). Everyone has something really nice to say about how I helped them in their career, and it’s just meaningful and very surreal and cool.
The reigning Women’s Intercontinental Champion sees her first singles bout when she defends the title Becky Lynch on the first night of WrestleMania 42, a match that Lee expressed gratitude for with the passion of the fans:
Making sure their hearts are with us. And so far, they’ve just been so into this rivalry with me and Becky, and to feel that passion, you can feel like heat when you’re in the ring. You feel it in your skin. So that’s exciting. I just want people to continue that sort of ravenous hunger for this match-up.
WrestleMania 42 emanates from Allegiant Stadium in Paradise (Las Vegas), Nevada on April 18 and April 19.
