Dwayne Johnson’s XFL and FOX Corp’s USFL reportedly in merger talks

According to a report by Axios, Dwayne Johnson’s XFL and FOX Corp’s USFL are currently in talks regarding a potential merger. The XFL is also owned by Johnson’s business partner Dany Garcia and RedBird Capital Partners.

The report also notes that should the deal close, both leagues would be structured as full equals. It is the hope of Johnson and FOX Corp. that both leagues will complete the merger before each of their 2024 seasons. Should the regulatory approval be approved the closing deal could be announced as early as next week.

Johnson, Garcia and RedBird acquired the XFL out of bankruptcy for $15 million in 2020. Forbes previously reported Johnson lost $60 million with this latest relaunch. FOX Corp. launched their new version of the USFL launched back in 2022.

Axios also notes both leagues averaged above 600,000 viewers for their regular season games and just above 1 million for their championship games.

The XFL issued told Axios they would not comment on rumors and speculation.
