Report: New Japan Pro Wrestling sold to Bushiroad

Puroresu Spirit is reporting that Bushiroad Group Publishing (a five year old company known for card based games along with Anime, video games and social media) has purchased 100% of the stock in New Japan Pro Wrestling. The company earned 1 billion Yen (around $13 million) in 2011 alone. NJPW was reportedly sold for roughly 500 million Yen or around $6.5 million U.S. dollars.

Bushiroad has been a strong financial backer of NJPW for some time now and have sponsored a variety of events already. 2012 marks the 40th anniversary for New Japan and the CEO of Bushiroad is setting some high goals including to “topple/overthrow WWE.” The company is also exploring the idea of touring outside of Japan.
