Ring of Honor sent this in.
Brooklyn is the place to be this Friday, August 15th when ROH presents FIELD OF HONOR! We are making our debut at MCU Park with a special 7 AM start time. The show kicks off with a steel cage grudge match!
– ROH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 4 WAY MATCH
“Unbreakable” Michael Elgin defends against “The Phenomenal” AJ Styles, Adam Cole & Jay Briscoe
“Unbreakable” Michael Elgin is dead set on being the most competitive ROH champion of all time. He wants to defend his title at every opportunity against everyone possible. But in the end, it’s up to Nigel McGuinness to determine who the TRUE number one contender is right now. Due to recent events surrounding the title even before Michael Elgin won it, Nigel has determined there are THREE men deserving of this status. And he’s decided the best course of action is to put them all in one match!
AJ Styles has unfinished business with Elgin and their series of matches has had then entire world talking. Additionally, as the current IWGP Heavyweight Champion he is automatically raised to the level of contender when you’re discussing the best wrestling in the world. But perhaps most convincingly, AJ Styles remains the ONLY man to pin Michael Elgin in 2014!
Jay Briscoe is a former world champion who – as he’s more than happy to remind you – was never pinned to lose his title. He still holds into that grudge and it’s a valid reason as to why he needs to be in this match. But also, Jay Briscoe has not be pinned in an ROH ring in TWO YEARS!
And finally, Adam Cole lost the belt to Elgin at BEST IN THE WORLD. He’s yet to have a rematch (though Elgin has certainly offered one) and some would say he’s been hiding behind The Kingdom while Elgin is gunning for him. Well, there’s nowhere to hide for Adam Cole on August 15th!
– STEEL CAGE MATCH FOR THE ROH WORLD TV TITLE
Jay Lethal (c) w/ Truth Martini vs former World TV Champion, Matt Taven
For months and months, Matt Taven has been trying to exact his revenge on first Truth Martini and now Truth’s latest associate, Jay Lethal. He’s played mind games, worn a mask…anything he can think of to throw them off. But no matter what he does, the House of Truth has the numbers advantage over Taven.
On August 15th, Matt Taven and Jay Lethal will be locked in a steel cage for a World Television Title match. There’s no telling how brutal this can get once Taven finally has Lethal trapped in the cage!
At BEST IN THE WORLD, Truth Martini thought he outsmarted officials by conspiring with Seleziya and J. Diesel to free him from his mandated handcuffs. But thanks to Truth’s insistence on bending the rules, he’s been added to this match as a stipulation!
If Matt Taven defeats Jay Lethal, not only will he regain the TV Title…he gets 5 minutes alone in the cage with Truth Martini! However, the flip side of this is that if Lethal retains, Taven can never again challenge for the belt as long as Jay Lethal holds it.
– ROH WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP MATCH
reDRagon (Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish) vs. Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian
The ROH World Tag Team Titles WILL be on the line in Brooklyn! And they challengers have been determined. After coming out victorious in Dearborn, “The Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian will have a shot at reDRagon on August 15!
reDRGon just returned from a trip to Japan and a dream match in NJPW against the Time Splitters. But Daniels and Kazarian pulled about a win over The a Young Bucks while reDRagon was gone! This is a rematch from their first-time-ever tag title match at BEST IN THE WORLD. Back in Nashville, Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish were able to capitalize on Kazarian’s injured shoulder and retain their belts. But this time, both teams know each other a little better.
With experience comes knowledge, and with knowledge comes strategy. This time, Daniels & Kazarian will know exactly what they need to do to defeat reDRagon. But at the same time, O’Reilly & Fish are only getting BETTER with every single match they have as a team. This is one of the most hotly anticipated rematches in pro wrestling today – and it’s for the ROH World Tag Team Championship!
– Cedric Alexander vs. ACH
Since the debuts of Cedric Alexander and ACH, Ring of Honor fans have been quick to embrace them as the future of pro wrestling. Both have unlimited upside and the determination to succeed.
In recent months, Cedric and ACH have found themselves allies with a common cause against The Decade. They are everything The Decade despises: young and exciting athletes rocketing to the top in ROH. But through it all, ACH and Cedric Alexander have remained true to themselves. They’re here to show why they belong among the best wrestlers on the planet.
At our Philadelphia return, the two singles title matches saw ACH challenging for the TV Title and Cedric Alexander challenging for the World Title. These two athletes earned these opportunities by overcoming the odds against multiple other potential contenders. At BEST IN THE WORLD, ACH came out on top in a 6 man scramble and Cedric pulled out a victory in Dearborn’s Golden Gauntlet.
In Philly, while neither ACH nor Cedric claimed gold, the both put on star-making performances! But just one week later they’ll have to face each other at FIELD OF HONOR in Brooklyn. That’s right: just a week after 2 gigantic title matches, these two friends will face each other!
Without question, this match is guaranteed to be an exhibition of agility and athleticism unlike anything you’ve ever seen! These men have been called the future of wrestling not just by their fans, but by their most respected peers in the sport. But in Brooklyn, there can be only one winner. Will friendship and sportsmanship survive the pressure of proving yourself in Ring of Honor?
– Mark Briscoe vs New Japan’s Watanabe
NJPW’s Takaaki Watanabe has been making his way around North America, gaining experience and learning new wrestling styles. Recently, he has been impressing in ROH and facing a wide variety of competition. He’s even been courted by The Decade. But we’re pretty sure he’s yet to encounter anyone quite like his FIELD OF HONOR opponent: Mark Briscoe!
As an ROH legend and record holding tag team champions, Mark Briscoe’s credentials speak for themselves. But listing out all the statistics in the world won’t prepare you for the wild chaos of a Mark Briscoe match!
This is a huge opportunity for Watanabe to show the world what he can do against one of the most tenured, talented athletes in Ring of Honor. It remains to be seen if Watanabe picked up any “Redneck Kung Fu” in his travels, but he should be prepared for absolutely anything when he stands across the ring from Mark Briscoe!
– Rocky Romero vs Michael Bennett w/ Maria Kanellis
Due to an unfortunate shoulder injury to his tag team partner, Alex Koslov, Rocky Romero has spent most of the summer trying his luck at singles competition in ROH. This has lead to a number of exciting new matches and the one set for FIELD OF HONOR is no different.
Michael Bennett has seen his career absolutely skyrocket in the past year. After whining for so long about not being appreciated by ROH fans and overlooked by ROH officials, Bennett finally did something about it – he upped his ruthlessness, battled more challenging competition, and banded together with Adam Cole in The Kingdom. While no one loves Bennett’s arrogance and attitude, there’s no denying his methods have paid off.
Now he faces an internationally traveled star known for his quick pace and nonstop aggression: ROCKY ROMERO. But Bennett himself will be fresh of an international stint with NJPW – a tremendous opportunity that he needs to follow up with a victory at FIELD OF HONOR!
Romero also needs to be on the lookout for Maria Kanellis, who more often than not makes herself a determining factor in her man’s matches. But following a loss to another member of The Kingdom – Adam Cole – there’s no way Rocky Romero is going down without a fight.
– Tommaso Ciampa vs “The Last Real Man” Silas Young
Much like Michael Bennett, Silas Young has seen his career on a major upswing as of late. He’s not afraid to speak his mind – whether or not anyone wants to hear it – and is grittier and tougher than quite possibly anyone else in pro wrestling. His unique, no apologies approach to wrestling could have the ultimate payoff in Milwaukee on DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR weekend, when he challenge Michael Elgin for the ROH World Title!
His FIELD OF HONOR opponent shares many similarities – Tommaso Ciampa doesn’t say he’s sorry and isn’t afraid to take what he thinks he deserves. We’ve seen that in the lead up to DEATH BEFORE DISHONOR. Convinced he’s been overlooked by ROH officials, Ciampa took matters into his own hands and DEMANDED at title match against Michael Elgin! That happens in Chicago Ridge.
Neither one of these already unstable men while accept a loss a week out from their world title matches!hostilities will be high – this is sure to be a war!
