WWE Hall of Famer Glenn Jacobs (Kane) has been re-elected mayor of Knox County, Tennessee.
According to knoxnews.com, Jacobs was declared the winner of the mayoral race just past 10:00 pm ET on Thursday night. This will be his second term as mayor of Knox County.
Jacobs, a self-described libertarian, and the incumbent, defeated Democrat Debbie Helsley. It was said that Jacobs held a 4,400-vote edge over Helsley, with 63 percent of the votes counted, which was enough to declare Jacobs as the winner. Helsley is a native of South Knoxville, and was the union president of CWA Local 3805 for 15 years.
According to the report, Jacobs announced his re-election campaign back in March 2021 and raised more than $401,760 since January 1 for his campaign.
The report also notes Jacobs opposed right from the start COVID-19 restrictions such as indoor mask mandates and hundreds of Knox County employees being furloughed as the budget ended up flush with cash. He also avoided raising taxes.
