Edge comments on reports regarding his current WWE contract status

WWE Hall of Famer Edge took to social media on Thursday morning to comment on recent reports regarding his contract status with WWE.

He said that he woke up to a lot of messages pertaining to his current contract status and future, and wanted to address those reports himself.

Edge did note he has a WWE contract extension sitting in his inbox.

“There’s nothing going on. There is no hard feelings between me and WWE. I love WWE. It’s my dream gig. It’s all I ever wanted to do. I didn’t come at them with some crazy contract or anything. They didn’t deny me. I have a contract extension sitting in my inbox. I just don’t know what to do. The first time I had to retire, it was forced. This time, the choice is a lot harder. WWE gave me that night Friday night in Toronto and it was the best night of my career. A lot of people will say ‘you should retire at WrestleMania,’ but it’s not their career. Friday night was really special for me. I don’t know if that can be topped, to be perfectly honest. If we think we can, then great. I need to sit with it. Just know, whatever it is that I do, whether it’s Percy Jackson or wrestling or sitting in my rocking chair, it’s because I’m having fun and having fun at this stage in my life and raising my kids are the two most important things. I hope that clears things up.

There were reports on Wednesday night, that there is a belief within WWE that after Edge’s contract expires at the end of September, he will be on his way to AEW.

The reports also noted the reason for the move is that WWE “declined to meet Edge’s request” for what it would take to have him sign a potential new contract. It was unclear what the specifics of what supposed requests were.

The report from F4WOnline notes that Dave Metlzer confirmed the accuracy of the report from PWTorch. Meltzer said the following:

“PWTorch has learned that Copeland presented to WWE what it would take to retain his services, but WWE declined to meet his request. This has sparked a belief within WWE that he is probably headed to AEW and knew at that time what AEW could offer him (based, perhaps, on conversations with other wrestlers of his star power about AEW pay).”

Edge wrestled what he said was his last match on his WWE contract last Friday night on SmackDown in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, as he celebrated his 25-years in WWE. During a post-match promo that was after the show went off the air, he told the fans that this was his final match in Toronto. He also said that he would take a week to recover and discuss future plans with his family.

Edge’s long-time tag team partner in WWE, Christian Cage, signed a multi-year deal with AEW back in March 2021.
