PPV Predictions: WWE Summerslam 2011

Predictions from the Faculty
WWE SummerSlam Edition
August 14, 2011
Predictions by: Wrestleview Columnists and Staff
Written by: Anthony J. Valvo of Wrestleview.com

Introduction

Welcome to the latest edition of “Predictions from the Faculty” (Season #3). This weekend, we gathered our thoughts for the upcoming WWE Pay-Per-View, as we will provide our selections for WWE SummerSlam. The show will be held in Los Angeles, CA.

The card currently will have only five matches. Rey Mysterio vs. The Miz was not announced as of press time, therefore we will NOT be counting their rumored match.

In case you are new to reading these predictions, here is the format. Each Pay-Per-View a few of the columnists on WrestleView provide predictions on who they think will win the matches. We accumulate throughout the end of the Faculty’s year (in this case, the 2012 Royal Rumble).

What makes this entirely different to others is that you, the reader, can provide your picks for a spot to have yours posted in an upcoming PPV. All the readers have to do is either leave me a message on Facebook or e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com. The winner among the “WrestleView Students” will win an opportunity to post their picks as a “Student of the Week” (if they outright defeat the reigning Students of the Week). We all thank you for your participation.

Tie-Breakers will determine standings!

I have decided to prevent some tiebreakers, I will issue points to Title Matches that are predicted correctly. There will be five championship matches on the card, so the maximum amount of points to go along with the win/loss standing will be five points. Also, if I throw out a pick for a championship, then obviously no bonus will be counted for that particular match.

But what, to the WrestleView “students”, there is more!

I got approval for this decision, and for the FIRST time in our three seasons the students will compete for PRIZES!!! That is right; we felt that your loyalty to the article shall be rewarded. However, the prizes* will not be handed out until the FINAL PPV Prediction of the season (which will be WWE’s Royal Rumble 2012). So not only will one get a chance to earn a Gold Star and be a part of this game, but it will be for a competition.

*Prizes go out to the top three (the most picked correctly and if needed tiebreaker points) positions and the worst (most matches picked incorrectly with the fewest tiebreaker points).

Current WrestleView Prediction Standings (As of TNA’s Hardcore Justice)

Tie-Breaker Points – Which are based on Championship matches correct

27: Jose Marrero; Ryan Rivera; Dave Stephens; Nicholas Gray; Gregory Walek; Mike Tedesco
26: Greg McNeish
24: Anthony Valvo
23: Josh Boutwell; Evan O’Brien
21: Evan O’Brien
19: Darragh O’Connor; Andrew Hayman
18: Matt O’Brien

The Student of the Week this week will be Joe Devine after going 7-2 in the Predictions for Hardcore Justice.

As of press time, I have yet to receive predictions from Andrew Hayman and Joey Devine. Once sent, I will present the predictions under the “comments” section of this article. If they send them, it will be counted.

And of course, the WV Students average will be part of the standings. I have taken out the “Students of the Week” for this season. However, do not worry. Those that scored the highest will still be welcomed to participate in an upcoming article.

The Best of the Class (Top 3 earn a prize. Tie-Breaker Points in parentheses)

Prizes:

1st Place – A DVD Set of our choosing (max 3 disc set).
2nd Place – A T-Shirt
3rd Place – A Coffee Mug
Worst – TNA Victory Road 2009 (or 2011) DVD.

(W/L from WWE’s Over the Limit)
(Tiebreaker Points are in second)

The WrestleView Reader Leaderboard

I will just type out the top readers at this time. The first set of parentheses is the W/L record for TNA’s Hardcore Justice PPV. The second parentheses are the Tie-Breaker points.

1) Paul Meade……………………………………………………..62-33 (4-5) (28) – #1
2) Nick Latham…………………………………………………….61-34 (2-7) (28) – Tie #2
3) Jordan Benterman…………………………………………..61-34 (3-6) (27) – Tie #3
4) Goose Oberstar………………………………………………61-34 (5-4) (27) – Tie #3
5) Michael Fox……………………………………………………60-35 (4-5) (27)
6) Jason Namako…………………………………………………60-35 (2-7) (25)

The person with the most picks incorrect is currently 39-41 with 19 tiebreaker points. Therefore, I deem that score the worst.

Also to those that have participated in all PPVs, keep it up. You can still be a Student of the Week.

And now, the moment you all have been waiting for…

Predictions for WWE’s SummerSlam 2011

*** NON-TITLE MATCHES ***

(Reminder: Even if the match is official, The Miz vs. Rey Mysterio will NOT count since it was not listed on the WWE website.)

Singles Match
Sheamus vs. Mark Henry

Jose M. – SHEAMUS.

Dave S. – SHEAMUS.

Ryan R. – SHEAMUS.

Greg M. – SHEAMUS. We’ll be seeing the 5th Christian-Orton title match, later on, and Sheamus is the only other top level babyface on Smackdown. They don’t have the luxury of time, to give him momentum towards the title.

Nick G. – SHEAMUS.

Greg W. – SHEAMUS.

Mike T. – SHEAMUS.

Josh B. – SHEAMUS.

Anthony V. – SHEAMUS. Mark Henry finally gets derailed now that he is booked with someone that is quick and strong in The Celtic Warrior.

Darragh O. – SHEAMUS.

Evan O. – MARK HENRY.

Matt O. – MARK HENRY.

Andrew H. – N/A.

Joey D. – N/A.

CONSENSUS: SHEAMUS. Mark Henry has been on a tear recently and took out the likes of Kane, Big Show, and Vladimir Kozlov. The staff believes that Sheamus will be the man that ends Henry’s ring of terror.

SHEAMUS 10; Mark Henry 2.

Singles Match
Wade Barrett vs. Daniel Bryan

Jose M. – DANIEL BRYAN.

Dave S. – BRYAN.

Ryan R. – DANIEL BRYAN.

Greg M. – DANIEL BRYAN. A victory here wouldn’t do anything for Barrett, but would give Bryan some much-needed credibility. I sound like such an IWC mark, saying that, but in this one instance, it’s true.

Nick G. – D~BRYAN.

Greg W. – BARRETT.

Mike T. – DANIEL BRYAN.

Josh B. – BRYAN.

Anthony V. – DANIEL BRYAN. I know the winners of these Money in the Bank cases tend to struggle a bit before they cash in the opportunity. However, I think if Barrett wins this makes Bryan’s character a bit feeble. Barrett does not need this match.

Darragh O. – DANIEL BRYAN.

Evan O. – DANIEL BRYAN.

Matt O. – I gotta go with BRYAN.

Andrew H. – N/A.

Joey D. – N/A.

CONSENSUS: BRYAN. The staff almost unanimously went with the Smackdown Money in the Bank winner. Though Barrett has a gripe with Bryan he will probably lose their first encounter.

DANIEL BRYAN 11; Wade Barrett 1.

*** CHAMPIONSHIP MATCHES ***

Singles Match for the WWE Divas Championship
Kelly Kelly (c) vs. Beth Phoenix

Jose M. – KELLY KELLY.

Dave S. – PHOENIX.

Ryan R. – BETH PHOENIX.

Greg M. – BETH PHOENIX. No need to beat around the bush (get your mind out of the gutter). Kelly’s been getting worse, and the Divas of Doom angle is the only one in the entire division.

Nick G. – BETH.

Greg W. – BETH PHOENIX.

Mike T. – BETH PHOENIX.

Josh B. – BETH.

Anthony V. – BETH PHOENIX. Kelly is still, I believe, their most marketable diva. However, Phoenix has the power to win this hands down and the D.O.D. will be represented well.

Darragh O. – BETH PHOENIX.

Evan O. – KELLY KELLY.

Matt O. – BETH PHOENIX.

Andrew H. – N/A.

Joey D. – N/A.

CONSENSUS: BETH PHOENIX. When Beth said that the days “of the perky blonde bimbo (may be off on my words) are over”, the WrestleView staff listened. We expect a new Divas champion, and it will go back to The Glamazon.

BETH PHOENIX 10; Kelly Kelly 2.

No Holds Barred Match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
Christian (c) vs. Randy Orton

Jose M. – CHRISTIAN.

Dave S. – ORTON.

Ryan R. – ORTON.

Greg M. – CHRISTIAN. For the love of God, put this feud to bed.

Nick G. – RANDY.

Greg W. – ORTON.

Mike T. – CHRISTIAN.

Josh B. – ORTON.

Anthony V. – RANDY ORTON. I think the stack is against Christian and Orton can go completely bonkers and clobber the current champion in this match.

Darragh O. – CHRISTIAN.

Evan O. – RANDY ORTON.

Matt O. – I am glad they waited to SummerSlam to end this. That being said, ORTON is my pick. I say this because I think Mark Henry is next in line for a shot.

Andrew H. – N/A.

Joey D. – N/A.

CONSENSUS: RANDY ORTON. If it was any other match, based on this story it looks like a shoe-in win for Christian. However, thanks in part to the No Holds Barred stipulation it is predicted by the majority that Orton will win the World Heavyweight Championship.

RANDY ORTON 8; Christian 4.

Singles Match for the Undisputed WWE World Championship.
Guest Referee will be Triple H
John Cena (c) vs. CM Punk (c)

Jose M. – JOHN CENA.

Dave S. – CENA.

Ryan R. – PUNK.

Greg M. – JOHN CENA. There are way too many possibilities for anyone to justifiably feel confident making a prediction. When in doubt, vote Cena.

Nick G. – PUNK.

Greg W. – PUNK.

Mike T. – CM PUNK.

Josh B. – PUNK.

Anthony V. – CM PUNK. I am predicting that this guy will be the champion for the HHH regime. Punk is edgy and always speaks his mind, just like HHH in the “Attitude Era”. It will be a case of “giving the fans what they want”.

Darragh O. – CM PUNK.

Evan O. – CM PUNK.

Matt O. – This is tough. Does someone do a heel turn? I think it is best to go with CENA.

Andrew H. – N/A.

Joey D. – N/A.

CONSENSUS: CM PUNK. Though the margin was a bit large, this may be one of the hardest predictions in recent memory. In a Champion vs. Champion match, most of the staff believe “The Summer of Punk” will end with a WWE Championship victory.

CM PUNK 8; John Cena 4.

Dismissal

Well, that does it for the fourteenth round of Predictions from the Faculty for the 2011-2012 season.

And remember students, this is YOUR column too! Please present to me your choices for the winners of any PPV by e-mail at mistervwv@hotmail.com or by sending me an inbox message on Facebook. Winner of each PPV receives a coveted (and NEVER duplicated) Gold Star in my next column and will be named the “Student of the Week” for the next Predictions article. Also, you are one step closer to a prize that if one is in the top three they will win a prize (and even the last place person as well, no one in between).

Well, that does it for us, class. On behalf of my peers on WrestleView I bid you farewell. We will be taking a 28-day recess and will be back with our predictions for TNA’s No Surrender PPV. As always, thank you for reading our predictions. Now go and enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Be sure to check out all the VIP material before SummerSlam. Also, for $4.99 a month you get so much for your money, including this weekend’s Pay-Per-View Post-Show hosted by Adam Martin and Hunter Golden.

Thank you for reading and to those that do, participated in the column. We appreciate your feedback.

Once again, here is how you can join in on our predictions game. Please use these methods. If you post them under the “comments”, they will NOT be counted.
