Becky Lynch says it was time to be “part of that family” in gaining U.S. citizenship

In an interview with Richard Deitsch, Becky Lynch addressed the importance of becoming a citizen of the United States.

On the Sports Media podcast to promote her new memoir, Lynch said that the time seemed right due to the family she’d become a part of:

You’ve read about this in the book, I always just had this yearning to be over in America. I felt like anything was possible if I could get over there. And I could follow my dreams and all those kind of cliches about the American dream. But I think more now than anything, it’s that I have an American daughter. And I have an American husband. And my family is American. It’s time for me to be part of that family, not just like the immediate family but the communal family.

So I had to have my green card for five years. And when that happened, I applied right away.

Lynch passed the citizenship test before the 3/18 edition of WWE RAW, with the news being mentioned on commentary by Michael Cole and announced by Becky to the live crowd after the show ended.

This makes the former WWE Women’s Champion a dual citizen of the U.S. and Ireland.

Lynch’s memoir Becky Lynch: The Man: Not Your Average Average Girl is available now, released ahead of her match against Rhea Ripley for the Women’s World Championship at WrestleMania 40 on April 6 and April 7 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
