MJF reportedly “leaning towards leaving AEW” after his contract expires

According to a Fightful report on Thursday, there is said to be still some hard feelings between MJF and AEW that may be leading him to leave the company after his contract expires in 2024.

The report notes, MJF is “leaning towards leaving AEW as of now when his deal is up.” It was further stated that during a “heated” discussion in April with Tony Khan, MJF “wasn’t happy about his contract situation and the pay scale as of that conversation, and we’re told the situation left him soured on many things.”

It has been said that an interview this past March with Ariel Helwani was not cleared through AEW’s Public Relations.

Fightful Select said there has been “at least some progress” on a potential extension with AEW.

MJF has not been shy about talking publicaly through promos and interviews about his possible free agency in 2024, which has even part of storylines on AEW TV.

He also has said he wants to be the highest-paid star in professional wrestling, saying he will go “wherever the money is”, alluding to a possible future with WWE. He has made it known he has mutual respect Bruce Prichard and Cody Rhodes.

There were reports last December both Fox and NBCUniversal became interested in MJF during his promos he used with the CM Punk feud.
