Backstage news on WWE Hall of Famer possibly signing with AEW

WWE Hall of Famer Edge had revealed on ET Canada, prior to his match against Sheamus that took place on last Friday night’s SmackDown, that was the last match on his current contract with the company. Last Thursday, he also had revealed during a phone interview on the August 17 edition of the FAN Morning show with Ailish Forfar and Justin Cuthbert, that his current deal with WWE expires at the end of September.

Edge told the fans in Toronto in an off-air promo at last Friday’s SmackDown, that was his last match in the city. He did tell the fans in attendance he was going to discuss his future with his family.

The report also notes that WWE has been more quiet as of late when it comes to signings, renewals and other news about talent contracts.

Fightful Select is under the belief Edge could be possibly be making his way to AEW, as he is of course very close friends with Christian Cage and also FTR, who helped him train and get back into shape to make his return to the ring, after being forced into retirement in 2011 due to spinal cervical spinal stenosis. Edge would go on to make his return to WWE at the 2020 Royal Rumble. Back in August of 2019, speculation began that WWE doctors cleared Edge to make his return to in-ring competition.

Back in 2019 as AEW was in its beginning stages, Tony Khan had approached Edge about joining the company.
