During the November 21, 2021 live episode of WWE Raw at the Barclay’s Center in Brooklyn, New York, Elisah Spencer, 24, jumped the barricade and tackled Seth Rollins. Spencer and Rollins briefly fought until security, referees and WWE officials broke it up. Rollins ended up suffering a swollen lip. The altercation ended up airing on live TV, but then cameras quickly cut away, as it was not part of that night’s scripted entertainment. Several fans recorded the altercation on their cellphones, which was posted to various social media platforms.
Following his arrest, Spencer told the New York Daily News he was the victim of a catfishing scam by an individual on social media posing as Rollins. Spencer also provided screenshots to the news publication that led him to believe he was actually communicating with the real Seth Rollins.
Spencer further said he wanted to “settle a beef going back to 2019” and to help Finn Balor, who Rollins was feuding with on Raw at the time. Spencer added that he purchased around $3,000 in gift cards, but the check that the fake Seth Rollins sent to him bounced.
Spencer was charged with attempted assault and attempted violation of arts and cultural affairs (disrupting a live sporting event), according to the New York Police Department.
In August of 2020, wrestling fan Phillip Thomas broke into the home of now former WWE Superstar Sonya Deville. He had a knife, zip ties, duct tape and mace. Thomas drove from his home in South Carolina all the way to Deville’s home, just outside of the the Tampa Bay area, with the plan of kidnapping her. He had parked his car at the nearby Idlewild Baptist Church earlier that night and walked to Deville’s home and had cut a hole in the patio screen and waited for three to four hours, as he watched and listened through the window. He then opened the sliding door, activating the security system. Deville and her guest, former NXT Superstar Mandy Rose escaped and called 911.
Thomas was sentenced to 15 years in jail, with 15 years of probation, after the judge accepted a plea agreement in which the defendant pleaded guilty to the charges of attempted kidnapping, aggravated stalking, and armed burglary.
