ROH Results – 8/17/23 (Pure Rules, Proving Ground Match, More!)

-Gravity defeated Gringo Loco

-Pure Rules Match: Josh Woods defeated Silas Young

Backstage, Maria Kanellis-Bennett cut a promo backstage where she believed that despite her tribulations, the wrestling business is asking for more. Kanellis said that she was aiming to build an army to protect “her kingdom”, which is why she was scouting. Leyla Hirsh confronted Kanellis and demanded a tougher challenge, which Kanellis obliged by booking Hirsh against Rachael Ellering.

-ROH Women’s Championship – Proving Ground Match: Athena (c) defeated Brittany J

-Samoa Joe and Stokely Hathaway defeated The Boys (Brent Tate and Brandon Tate)

-Billie Starkz was interviewed backstage with her saying that she was not aware of what was going on with Athena, but she was confronted by The Renegades (Robyn Renegade and Charlette Renegade), who told her that they would take care of her later in the night.

-Gates of Agony (Kaun and Toa Linoa) (w/ Prince Nana) defeatedChristopher Daniels and Matt Sydal

-Madison Rayne defeated Dani Mo

-Dark Order (Evil Uno, Alex Reynolds and John Silver) defeated Isaiah Broner, Lord Crew and Corey Calhoun

ROH World Wrestling Champion Claudio Castagnoli cut a promo addressing the talk of him not being on ROH Television. Castagnoli brought up his two title reigns as Champion, saying that he learned he had a simple job as champion: letting go of the thing he loved. He then said this job is to keep the ROH World Title from people like Eddie Kingston, Mark Briscoe and PAC. He closed by saying that anyone who wants a shot at the title has to be better than him.

-Cole Karter defeated Griff Garrison

-Billie Starkz defeated Charlette Renegade (w/ Robyn Renegade). Post-match: The Renegades attacked Starkz, but Athena came in for the save. Athena and Starkz laid out the Renegades before they left the ring together.

Tony Nese and Ari Daivari were interviewed backstage by Lexy Nair. Nese made fun of North Carolina’s health statistics.

-Lee Johnson, Darius Martin and Action Andretti defeated Lee Moriarty and the WorkHorsemen

Athena & Billie Starkz were interviewed backstage, where Athena named Starkz her “minion”. Starkz then challenged The Renegades for a tag match next week. Athena was hesitant about the challenge, but said that she would speak with Starkz about it later before telling Starkz to “drive her to the mall”.

-Lady Frost defeated Trish Adora (w/ Carlie Bravo and Shawn Dean)

Kiera Hogan was interviewed by Lexy Nair, where she called out Lady Frost before stating that she would “burn that b—- up”.

-Leyla Hirsh defeated Rachael Ellering

-Dalton Castle defeated “Pretty” Peter Avalon

Shane Taylor was interviewed by Lexy Nair backstage. Taylor said that he has been waiting six-years to re-establish his legacy in ROH, before he sent a warning to Samoa Joe. Taylor promised to knock Samoa Joe out to regain the ROH Television Championship.

Tony Nese was about to make “Group Training”, but was stopped by Jerry Lynn. Lynn revealed that Nese would face Metalik to a match in the Main Event of the evening.

-Metalik defeated Tony Nese (w/ Ari Daivari)
